I dunno... Im sure if i was in the moment, i would ponder keeping the bag, but would likely return it. But after reading the story. Hell no.
Couple Points.
- A car salesmen accidentally leaves a bag in front of a store, from a recent "Sale" of a car.... Not likely, (anyone thinking Fargo, or drug deal) Who buys a $18,000 car with cash, and lets someone carry it in a duffel bag around the city.
- The car salesman gives them each $250 for returning a bag with $18000 in it! Prick, if it wasnt for them the money would likely be gone forever.

I call foul play here. That money was to pay off someone.

1. The salesman is lying and is up something foul (I hope he is investigated).
2. The sisters deserve a reward much more than $500 combined.
3. Saying what I would do in that situation is tough, I honestly don't know. I know what the "right" answer is, but $18k is a lot of money. I would probably take it home and sit on it for a few days and see if anything is made public regarding the situation.

Agree on all points. Its difficult to say what you would do in that situation knowing what happened already with the salesguy.

I really should have done a test to this site. Like first create a thread saying, "You have found $18000, would you, keep it, or try to return it" And gauge peoples opinions. then create another thread giving the details and see what the poll shows.

there is no way it was for a car. you would never give that in cash. there would be a ton of red flags going up if you were the sales guy. Hell when I bought my spyder I was told not to bring 22k in cash to pay for it and just wrote a check and transferd the money to the checking account.

I would take the 18k and also sit on it for a while to see if anything came up. but I would really dont think it would have

Don't be so quick to judge. Many people from other countries purchase only with cash. I sold a Volvo XC90 to two gentlemen who brought $16,000 in cash for it, and it was all different bill denominations, stacked on the desk it was almost a foot tall. We took it directly to the bank and they verified it was good clean funds. That vehicle was on a boat for Russia the next week.

I think I would probably have of tried to figure out who it belonged to, but probably wouldn't be 18k in the bag when I gave it back ;)
