So my oil pump seized on me after doing my balance shaft delete. I took it apart and found out the stub that came with my kit seized into the housing. I installed it properly and made sure it had plenty of oil. I also primed the car for a long time before I started it.

So now I got a new oil pump/ front case that already had the BS's eliminated. So I swapped the oil pump over to mine but it seems like it's still really hard to turn. I assembled it all with ARP moly lube and even primed it by hand. I got it to turn pretty easily but once I bolted up the front case it was hard to turn again. Even after putting my impact on it and spinning it for awhile. I don't remember it ever being this hard to turn. The only other option I can think of is to put the rear balance shaft back on instead of the stub.

so basically I'm asking is it supposed to have some kind of resistance to it? Like to where it's pretty hard to turn the sprocket by hand? I know the lube will make it a little harder to turn. But I'm almost 100% it wasn't this hard before..

That's bad... it should turn freely, something is not fitting right under the front cover or pump cover...

This may or may not pertain to you but we have here a brand new OEM front cover with a brand new OEM Stub shaft and they do not fit together. The stub shaft does not fit in the hole right. when installed you cannot even turn it. Maybe you had a bad stub shaft or something. But I hope that front cover works for you!

That's why I'm thinking of putting the balance shaft back in. You can leave the rear one in, and connected. I'll have to try that and see if it spins freely. BTW Mike, how much did you want for that front case?

Yeah, it should turn freely. Where did you get the stubshaft from? The factory Mitsu one should work perfectly with the Mitsu front case.

Won't having one balance shaft produce vibrations? You could just get that one turned down. I remember my stub shaft/oil pump was easy to turn, very loose feeling.

I bought the kit from Partsdinosaur.com.

No you can leave there rear one in there without any issues. (people say) I could just cut the balance shaft off and use it like a stub. A lot of people do it that way.

I'm gonna put the rear shaft back in and see how it feels. If it feels good I'll either just put it back in, or cut it and use the end of it like a stub.

Well even with the balance shaft connected it still had quite a bit of resistance. I ended up assembling it all into the case I got from Primo and it spins freely. I'm assuming something got really messed up with my case when this happened. Maybe even warped it.. After all, I was at about 3k rpm with it seized up.

So wait, you got a new front case with an oil pump in it, but you took the pump out of that one to put it in the old case? Why not just put the whole new front case on?

The case that came off my car is in a little better condition. The one I got has a few little hair lines cracks here and there. It doesn't appear that they go through at all though. Just kind of have a habbit of trying to keep my original stuff on my car.
