See my question is even if you do get a ethanol content reader whether one of those dipstick style and the little cubbicle or the actual fancy digital read out inline contend reader...once your tank is filled! Your tank is filled ...so what do you do ...make adjustments with what ever you may have? Link or by whatever else for other means....? Great...what about the ones that went in and got tuned.....let alone dont have the slightest clue....

Sad part is in the most worst case scenarios some people have had their builds blow up on them yay fun...NOT! So what is the point in sitting there at the gas station with a white apron on testing your fuel...before you fill up a whole tank...and drive around from gas station to gas station till your paper clip tells you alright you may fill up all the way? Im not quite following how or why more like what the point is? Since the fuel could change literally from tank to tank at the same PUMP!?
Do you guys just check for who is most consistent and cross your fingers? There has to be a better way to figure that out?
I just switched to Ethanol couple weeks ago and the tune i was on from that tank of gas already felt slightly different especially on idle and getting the car to stay running on cold start up's when i filled up again at a different station with a quarter tank.... Coincidence perhaps....since after warm up my afr's were sort of close...but again who wants to slash how convenient is it to have your lap top EVERY WHERE YOU GO!
Changing things even if your half a tank down...and just to cover my self I KNOW SOME MIGHT SAY CAUSE RACE CAR! The manufacturer didnt intend the vehicle to run on that fuel blah blah blah and its a compromise but cmooooon lol Them stickers are Trickey lol 52%!!!!? :wedgie:

Any update on this at all. It is that time of the year, and I am guessing a lot of people are going to be getting tuned. Interested if anyone has done any testing?
It usually doesn't start switching around here for another month. Around the first week of June most stations have settled into their summer blend.

Shane please do correct me if im wrong....but is everyone saying its better to tune your car on e70 and let her buck with e85 without getting re tuned and one would be fine or get tuned on e85 and once e70 comes around again let her be and you will be fine?. Best scnerio would be to get tuned and have 2maps one E70 one E85 (and a 93 for really bad days) Thankfully ECM LINK V3 Lets you do that :)
Im a little confused as to which of the blends leans out when one switches over to the other without making adjustments. I assume im safe to say its better to run richer then lean....?

Every year people go on about the blend changes, its not cut and dry.
You really think 1st of may hits and the blend coming out of the pump is no longer E70 but E80 or whatever?
Just fill up your car and keep an eye on your wideband, be mindful the blends will change. (look at the chart that has been in this thread for years) and adjust your tune.
You don't know how to tune, then ask your tuner bro dude man.

If you are going to run the same tune year round, then the tune needs to be setup in that way. A tune that makes the most of E70 wouldn't be safe on E85 and the same thing the other way around. I give people 2 or 3 tunes if possible even if it's just a guess to adjust for the fueling changes. Not everyone uses tuning systems that are as clunky as DSMLink and many have systems that are much quicker and easier to change tunes with then having to get out a laptop. A tune setup up to a mix anywhere from E70-E85 will be giving up power on all those mixes. When you get that tank of E60 or E50 is when you really get screwed.

This thread was fun to read again...only because i think i got screwed big time filling up at a new gas station a block or two away from my house. My afr gauge of course crapped out on me a little before then...my car wont even rev past 3k without stumbling and bucking all over the place. I literally had to park it and make tow arrangements it was so bad. Thing back fired so hard i thought i blew a ROD or something. I had just a little bit of my old fuel left in the tank so who knows.
Dint have my lap top to try and change the global to see if it would fix it...but this blend garbage makes for a headache...i think im going to just get a barrel of e98 and never look back...run it straight or mix it up to make e85 and store it some where convenient. Side note Didnt map come out with like a content reader or something like that? Ive been trying to do some research on this. I completely forgot about all these headaches running E85.
Also cant one really not attain the same power goals as on pump gas...i remember just jumping on the bandwagon without never actually doing my own research...

Agreed. $300 for a tune you can drive on E62-83 without a problem. I have one of those zeitronix doodads but nothing beats a quality tune. :drive:
