So today I dropped my car off at a reputable shop to get my 3" GM MAF installed. Had them do it since I don't have anything to cut my mild steel IC pipe. The tuner there has a dsm so I felt confident my car was in good hands. To my loss he was not in until later which my appointment was at 10am.
Anyways here is my concern. I have never seen the gm maf installed in this location (lower then the bov). My thought was it has to be 6"-8" from the throttle body on the upper part of the bov. Now it's going to measure air after the bov blows off? Will I be running rich between shifts now? I'm running ECMlink V3. The car has not been driven yet because I am waiting to get a tune so I have the stock MAF hooked up.
Pictures after the instal. Sorry my garage is dark.

It would work fine, besides venting of the BOV.

With the GM MAF pre-BOV you will need to recirculate back into the intake pipe. Definitely need to specify exactly where you want things installed when you have someone else do it.

Maybe they thought the pipe went the other direction and they cut out the wrong section. My UICP actually fits both directions just fine, see if you can re-arrange it so the BOV is down low and the MAF is up top.

F**K.. So I just got off the phone with them and they said they would have to recharge me to redo it. I was like what kind of customer service is that and they told me they are short on time. Also stating they would have to charge me $500 to redo my ic piping. That is F-ing BS! They took my $80 and basically did an incorrect instal. So tomorrow I'm going back with my car and speaking with the shop owner because I am pretty pissed right now. I figured they knew what they were doing because there tuner is a big dsm guy. Sucks for me today was his off day which I had thought in the beginning he was going to be doing the instal.

To me, there doesnt look to be room to squeeze a gm maf between the bov and the tb...looks like the put it in the only place they had space, and since you didn't specify, they just put it where they could.

I am with asshanson on this.

Maybe I am over simplifying it but couldn't you just flip the pipe around? It appears that there is enough room and you could easily try it in 20 minutes with just a screwdriver. If it doesn't work your out 20 minutes of your life (time better spent than rubbing one out IMO).

Looks like you should be able to flip the pipe around and make it work.
