Do you mean width or circumference? You can run different widths (though I don't know why on a street car) but the tires must be the same circumference all around. If you have different sizes of tires it will cause excessive wear on the differentials.
Also, being close isn't good enough. That's why you need to replace all four tires on an AWD car even if one is bad, or have the tread on the new one shaved down to the same height as the other three.

Ok some of you clearly don't understand what the numbers on a tire sidewall mean.
they mean very little actually. They're approximations at best, you really need to look at the actual tires specs.
What they approximately mean, for a 235/45-17 for example, is:
235mm wide, 106cm sidewall (235*.45), 17" rim.
If you actually start digging into the specs and comparing tires, even within the same brand, you'll notice they're all actually very different and sometimes to get the same size tire, you need to buy a different advertised size tire. As an example, the rear AP1 S2k tires from the factory are 225/50-16, but to get an equivalent sized tire you generally need to go with a 245/45-16.

Who is this directed to? Maybe add some useful information instead of worthless tidbits like this.

Oh, I know, I've looked at thousands of pics when I was deciding which wheels to get. :)
Not quite what I'm going for, for me it's more about sitting flush with wheel lips. I've always hated that the rear wheels sit farther inboard relative to the fender lip than the front, even more so with my shortened rear lower control arms done before there was any sort of camber adjustment made for 1G's.

It's good to know not all of your styling is from the 80's ;).
I do remember having a 7.5" rear wheel with a +32 offset being kinda flush-er than your avg wheel. This is what i was using when I bought my new wheels......

It helped a lot in all of the wheel options' flushnesses when looking at other people's wheel setups.
