Here's a video I found from the weekend before the one I drove on that really shows the course layout. The only difference this weekend was on the back straight they added a chicane section to slow you up a bit. If they would have left the back straight open, I have no doubts the talon could hit 90 on the ice.

Yes, he's on studs.

It depends on what class you race in... the most realistic for a daily driver type car is Rubber to Ice. 123abc, which class were you in?
E. Rubber to Ice Class
This class is to promote an entry level to ice racing that doesn’t require as large a financial commitment as the
other classes. Only the following modifications are allowed. Modifications beyond these rules are not allowed:
1. Cars must be two wheel drive.
2. A four point roll bar is required. It must have one diagonal in the main hoop plane and two rear stays.
Additional bars may be added. Full roll cages are allowed. All roll cages and bars must
be constructed to the design and sizing found in IX.D.1 except all trim components must be retained. Trim
components may be modified but only to the extent necessary to allow installation of the roll
structure.
3. The driver’s seat may be replaced with a racing style seat but must be securely attached and designed for
automotive use.
4. IIRA cars prepared to Stock or Modified may compete in this class as long as the car fully meets all
requirements for the Stock or Modified class (except tire rules).

5. Wheels are unrestricted in size but the tire/wheel assembly must be covered by the fender when viewed
from above and must not interfere with anything throughout the full range of motion of
suspension and steering.
6. Any unmodified DOT rated tire may be used.
If you race in any other category (wheel to wheel), you're supposed to have a roll cage, and people run studded tires.
Basically guys there are 6 classes. Awd, fwd, and rwd, and then for each you got studded and non studded. No rollbar required. Just make sure your car is mechanically good and let it rip.
They have helmets you can use as well. So really, the only excuse is not wanting to drive down here.
you guys are talking about different sanctioning bodies. (boring ice racing and interesting ice racing ). IIRA is wheel-to-wheel ice racing and requires roll cages or bars depending on class. We have a turbo legacy we race in GTX. 12 cars sideways into a sweeper at 80mph and so on. Last weekend we were topping out at around 100mph on the long straight.
If anyone is interested in ice-racing their street car closer to the twin cities, glacier lakes quattro club holds events in prior lake. There is an event the last weekend of the month (there is also an IIRA event that weekend in Lindstrom, MN and sno*drift prorally in michigan where I'll be)

What I did was more RallyX, right? I don't mean for people to think it's wheel to wheel. You pay 35 bucks and get 8 chances to get the fastest lap you can.

The ones I go to are part of the SCCA.

can you link me to the schedule of events? I can't find anything on the SCCA site. That site is not straightforward to navigate.

glacier lakes quattro club also does ice racing on lake cynthia. It sucks that all their events are either during IIRA races or Rally America races
Has anyone done an event with Glacier Lakes Quattro Club? They have an event next weekend and I'm seriously considering it. Just wondering what it's like.
