Alright everybody, I'm finally getting the motor pulled out of my 99GST in the next few weeks. I'm bringing it to my uncles at Racing Engineering, where the motor will be stripped down, and many things will be refreshed and replaced as well as upgraded. I'm getting the FP 68HTA turbo already, and am looking for a good list of modifications to do to the motor while it is out. I'm still with the original 7 bolt, and it's at about 107,000 miles.
I would like your opinions on what some good mods and parts to replace are, besides the basics like the timing belt, cams and clutching equipment.
I'm upgrading the turbo, clutch and flywheel for starters...

What are your goals?

Get some cams, FP4R or HKS272.
Obviously you're going to need fuel upgrades, go with something like 1000cc and a Walbro255 pump so you can run e85.
That should put be most of what you need to put you in the mid or maybe high 300s on dynodynamics.

^^mhmmm, also need to think of what you're gonna tune with and a nice fmic setup as well. I know with my friends gst, that once they get 300+hp, you need to have your front end suspension and steering parts all in good working order, so make sure that maintenence is all up to date before slapping mods on. Fwd gets scary if not done right.

Oh yea, the other mod is to go AWD!
Good call on FMIC and tuning, I'd recommend ECMlink for ease of use. Going to have to get a 95ecu though unless you want to get crazy and run an evo ecu or speed density or something.

Well, I'm good on the tuning, i have dsmlink, and plan on getting it professionally tuned at either MAP or DB in the spring, as I will basically have it put away for winter. I have a basic godspeed FMIC for now that I am going to sell eventually, and get a Greddy FMIC, and some short route dejon piping.
And yea, for goals, I want around 400hp. prolly end up with upper 300's, and I'd be more then happy with that, as it will be just for street use as a summer car for now.

68HTA is a very wise choice. It literally looks like a 14b or 16g, and makes one hell of a sleeper. Spools up faster than stock, and flows up to 48 lbs/min and costs only 800-900 dollars. What else could a man want to be happy? :)

alright, so now I'm thinking about really doing the motor up good, like around $3k worth, valves, cams, porting/polishing, crank, everything. What's a good person/place to have beef up a transmission? I know a shepard tranny would be awesome, but i really don't wanna have to do all the shipping stuff if possible.

you will have to ship the tranny out to have it built
