So I walked up to some cash laying on the ground today in my apartment building. It's more than a couple bucks and less than $100, but still a significant amount. I think I know what I'm going to do with it, but I was just curious to see how other people would realistically handle the situation.

You're walking along and find some cash. You're reasonably sure you know the general population that it came from (like an apartment complex or workplace). What do you do?

At least make an attempt to find the owner
Donate it
Finders keepers
Leave it and let someone else deal with it

Tough call and I think it would depend on my mood that day. If it were a wallet with identification I would give it back, no doubt about it. If it were just cash it would probably go into my pocket and I'd consider it my lucky day. I would be much more likely to attempt and find the owner at work than I would be at my apartment building since I'm much closer with those people (I don't know anyone in my apt building any more than an occasional "hi" in passing).

I've ran into the wallet thing like 4-5 times at work. I've seen a 50 dollar bill in the gas station store and returned it to the store just because 50 is alot to lose for somebody and i know what it's like to lose money. If I find $xx amount outside......it's my lucky day no doubt about it.

Nothing I would say hasn't been said already, so I won't comment. ;)

Back in the day at boy scouts me and my troop found like $350 in a bank envelope...being in the boy scouts, we returned it to the front desk lol.

One time I was leaving applebees and just as I was walking out the door some lady who worked there (who wasnt our waitress) came running out the door after us. I turn around and she goes "you forgot your money on the table" and she fans out at least 5 or 6 hundred dollar bills. After i sat frozen for what seemed like 30 seconds but was only like 2 seconds i said nope its not mine. I think I made the right decision.

was at treasure island a couple weeks back, me and the girlfriend spent all the money we came in with and were about to leave. as we were walkin to the front door we happend to spot a 100 dollar bill on the ground. i follow a strict policy at the casino as finders keepers. granted if it had been a wallet or something i would have tried to find the owner. we ended up blowing it but still lol.

And I'd bet my life that the employee you gave it to slipped it into his pocket the second you left.

Me, it depends on the mood, but ultimately getting it back to the person who dropped it is almost impossible, anyone can come up with a convincing story as to how they lost it, and if you give it to the wrong person, you gave up a perfectly good amount of money you could have spent on yourself. In my current mood, I'd hang onto it for a few days and if nobody mentioned it, then I'd officially pocket it.
