I'd keep it but if you wanted to try and find the person who dropped it post it up.
If they can tell you how much was lost then it's most likely the rightfull owner.

just cash on the ground keep it.
I use to find cash all the time on the planes at work most of it non US keeped it all just keep your mouth shut about it. There was a crew that found 5k in euro's and split it up at work. It was in the seat pocket in first class.
me and my buddy found what we think was drug money in a car he just bought. we picked it up in the getto of St. Paul we were stripping it to clean the inside out. found 2500.00 in 100's we split it and the car was only 800.00 to start with
Seeing it was an apt building and the owner is probably not easily identifiable, I would keep it.
Wallet is always a try to contact the owner in my book.
Guess if I found a couple hundred on the ground and knew who dropped it/it belonged to I would give it back. Would be nice to have a little extra cash but it always feels better to do the right thing. Not like the money would have any sign change on my life anyhow.
Also depends on my mood. I might keep it. More out of personal laziness and general distrust of others than greed. Otherwise I would leave it where it sat.

Post up a small sign near the front door that says, 'I found something, if you lost something and can properly identify it, you can have it back'
Otherwise, I usually spend money I find on something frivolous, or even on friends/family...seems like the only right thing to do :D

Id probably give it back to my community by supporting a girls college fund. IE strip club. :D

I would do like Scheides said if it wasn't in a wallet. If nobody claimed it within a week I would then claim the money as my own. If it was a wallet with identification, I would for sure give it back to whoever owned it.

I would probably hold onto the money, but report it to the apartment management in case someone files a report that they lost the money. I probably wouldn't say how much to anyone and if someone does claim they lost the money, I'd ask them to tell me how much as proof it's really there's, and if it was give it back. I've had money lost and/or stolen before, and it sucks to be on that end of the stick.
But if no one claimed it after a couple weeks, I'd probably end up just putting it in the bank.

If it was less than $100, outdoors, and no clue who it belongs to then I'd keep it.
