So I recently picked up a built motor for a sweet a$$ deal. Issue is Im deployed. Im home for 2 weeks of leave right now. I should be getting the motor in the next couple of days. I will be stowing it in a climate controled storage unit. The motor will be sitting for 6 monthes. The block and head are seperated.
Now for the questions.
Should i keep them seperated or put the head back on?
How should i cover it?
Put oil, lube or any kind of grease on it to keep the parts fresh?
Any input will be awesome.
Thanks Ross

Assembly lube or fogging oil + plastic trash bags to keep everything protected. 6 months really isn't that long though, especially if its in a climate-controlled environment. A light coating of fogging oil should do a nice job keeping rust away.

So i got the motor today. It is seperated the head is of and so is the oil pan. There is debris on the inside of the block. So Im in a big pickle. So what should i do leave it and worry about it in six months? Have it cleaned and put it back together? Can i keep the block together and clean it or does it have to be full disassembled to have it cleaned? I know if it is hot tanked it has to be full disassembled. Basically im asking if there is anyway i can clean it without having to take the block apart? Any help would be great?

I think you'll be fine, just follow Kracka's advice. FWIW, I had my block & head sitting for well over 1 year.

Well, to be on the safe side you should probably tear it down and clean it. Why did you buy this?

Cause he had over 5,000 dollars done to the motor with only 100 miles on it and he sold it to me for 1700. I knew when i was buying i was going to aleast have to drop a grand into it to get her back up in the game.

its better to be safe than sorry. it's not in a car, the heads off, it isn't hard to tear the rest down and clean it just to be safe

I would still tear it down and inspect it. I bought a built short block that I was told was in running condition, but once I tore it down I found two bearings had spun because they were installed backwards. Better to be safe than sorry.
