Probably, it seems to help turbo cars way more than it should. Both ethanol and methanol have very high latent heat of vaporisations compared to normal petrol fuels. Straight methanol doesn't have a crazy octane rating either, like 110-115 octane, while C16 is 116-117 octane. But you wouldn't see a C16 car running 60-80psi of boost with no intercooler, while you do with methanol cars.

I had my own experience switching from BP to Holiday gas today. I was running my Colt at about 20psi on BP gas with about 6-7 counts of knock. Got 92 at Holiday and turned the boost down to 18psi. Knock still doubled.

Damn, that really makes me wonder what kind of power I could of pulled out of the old girl on some good ole BP gas. I was pretty damn happy with the power level I was at too, 300awhp on a Dyno Dynamics. If it would of been 350 or even 330awhp, that would of knocked my socks off!

I work at BP service writing and full service bitch, but yea, our gas is the shit. All sorts of people with nice cars come here because of the 93 octane hotness.

I don't seem to notice a difference from station to station, but I'll try and stick to the BP's as much as possible now. Good thing there's one right by my house.

I must be missing something... So he dynoed 270 originally, swapped TBs and came back another day, 270 again.

Came back a different time only switching to BP gas and now 318???

Guess I am a little leary as they were different days, temps, etc. Could have been a bad batch of gas or something else... I guess a better test would be slap the car on the dyno on BP, tune, drain all fuel, switch to holiday, and tune again. Still hard to rule out temp of the intake charge and the possibility of getting bad gas...

I have had numerous similar experiences, I always use BP 93 in my GTP since I run a really small pulley on the super charger.

One day I was almost out of gas when I left work so I got a bit of gas at a Kwik Trip on my way home. I got on the hwy and gave it 3/4 throttle, it felt way down on power for some reason, I hooked my scan tool up to it and it was knocking bad around 10lbs of boost and 1/2 throttle.

Good thing I only put $5 in it; subsequently I went and filled it up with BP93, got on the same hwy going back towards home and floored it with my scan tool on, 18lbs of boost and no knock. Doesn't get anymore real world than that. BP gas is very good, the only people that are going to be able to tell the difference is high compression cars, or boosted cars that are slightly to highly modified.

I have filled up my Tahoe all over and can't tell the different from place to place, but my GTP that makes a measly 350whp chokes and pukes on SA, Holiday, and Kwik Trip gas. Don't know why though, you would think the gas would be farely close, I mean what the heck doesn't 92 octane mean 92 octane? Weird.

Proof in the pudding right here:

The time when he swapped TB's was several weeks and different tanks of gas were used on those occasions, both were from quik trip.

Yes, the test could be better, but it wasn't a test, it's what happened while one guy's evo was down on power and Shane and others tried to help him figure out what the problem was. Just sharing real-world results, that's all.
