I have had mine come on because of an old crusty wire on the sending unit, replaced wire=problem fixed

Mitsubishi oil sening units are pretty prone to failure

More so on the 96-04 models

Are you talking about the gauge sending unit (cylinder looking with bsp threads) or the ECU one?
