I see quite a few SUVs in there that I want. :( This whole thing is lame.

Then go buy one. You are not going to see a whole line of cars extinct from this program. To qualify you have to have had the car registered and insured for over 1 year which rules out a ton of people who would like to do the program.

I think people are looking at the cars and getting caught up with their exterior appearance and thinking it is a "nice" car that is being traded in. I am sure all of the cars in the pictures have a ton of miles and some issues.

That Aurora in the video looked like a nice car until they said it had 240k miles. I wouldn't drive a GM with that many miles. Others probably have tranny issues, or other items. Car has to be in running shape, doesn't have to run or drive well.

Yeah, it may have had a lot of miles, but it sounded pretty good... well, to start. They also lied about it having every warning light on the dash on, because when they showed the gauge cluster, I didn't see a damn thing. But I'm sure they were all on after they were done.

Well, being that this started as a DSM site I think people are comfortable wrenching on a car. Usually when I look for car or truck I look for one with a good body and a few mechanical issues. End up saving some $$$ that way.

America is famous for our passion for cars. We have some real survivors and alot of people I know would rather restore or fix-up an older car that looks good rather than overpay for some over optioned ugly piece of crap that the auto makers are trying to convince us we want and or need.

Not everybody can run out and buy new Vipers every year you know ;):D

Business made money and bought the second one :) I plan on selling the black one.

I typically buy cars like you, needing a bit of work, but we are in the minority. The red viper had some issues when I bought it and so did both of my trucks. The ford that I will probably trade in runs fine, just has some rust and is old (88). I bought it for $400a year ago as a work truck. Never stranded me. I don't think anyone will be upset seeing a pic of it on the internet as a clunker trade in ;)

But then again there is probably some F150 forum where one guy is looking for a specail part on that year who could be upset....

It is going to be hard for me to give up my insight (58mpg) when and if I trade in my clunker. Don't need a new car but the CARS program is a pretty good deal. I definitly don't need 2 daily drivers though.

That's pretty much exactly what I'm looking for right now

Especially if it's a 4.9L straight six

If you can get $4500 for it then that's a deal. I just hate to see basically decent full size pickups and SUV's go to the scrap man :(

Looks like the program is over or at least suspended:

Over 22,000 vehicles traded in as of wendesday according to the link.

I have been calling around to honda dealers to see if anyone is open late but I don't think so as I cannot get ahold of anyone.

Interesting as the CARS.GOV site says there is still 7XXM remaining... No word on their site also.

I heard on another site they are considering upping it to 3b if it goes well.
