So as I said in a different thread, I am considering going with a stroker setup next year. I sourced a crank, but am a bit concerned about it. I haven't boughten it yet. The seller sent me pictures. Here's the pictures, and here is what he said. I was wondering what some of the experts would have to say about this. Also, this is a virgin crank.
Sending pics now. Make sure you look at them pretty close. It appears there is a little scoring on the center (thrust) bearing. I'm not sure if you are planning on cutting this crank or not. Let me know.

It's really hard to tell if it will polish out or not, I sure wouldn't cut it. You really need to see it in person when it's questionable like that.

I don't know about the 4g6x motors, but my crank is .020 under all around and it's been working perfectly for years. Just had it polished and rebalanced last winter, no extra cutting, but it's fine again. So, if all you have to do is cut it, what other problems would there be?

some 4g cranks (usually the turbo ones) are nitrided. cutting a crank removes this nitriding, and its expensive to reapply and straighten the crank.

of coarse the g54b cranks dont have a problem! they weight like 80lbs! it looks like it had a catch of something on the journal, either bearing or debris, but it would take some "cleaning" to smooth it out. most likely it will NOT polish out.

my crank is forged and nitride hardened stock, so when I had it turned down it had to be renitrided. As I recall, it was less than 100 bucks. Maybe 70 or lower. Crankshaft supply did all the crank work though, so just call them, maybe ask if they can tell from the pictures what needs to happen.

If the crank needs to be ground down, then I'm not interested at all. From the sounds of it, it sounds like there is a pretty general concensus that it more than likely will not polish out, and will have to be ground. So if that is the case, then I'm already not interested.

Just out of curiosity, why don't you want to have a ground crank? Do they become significantly weaker or something?
