This is good info so I figured I post it up in a separate thread.

This is assuming you are running stock sized tires on each car.

For gas milage considerations, here is a break down top gear RPM at various cruiseing speeds on the highway.

speed . . . AWD DSM. . . . . EVO VIII. . . . . EVO IX. . . . . EVO MR

55 . . . . . . . . 2425 . . . . . . . . 2365 . . . . . . . 2500 . . . . . . .2305

60 . . . . . . . . 2645 . . . . . . . . 2580 . . . . . . . 2730 . . . . . . .2515

65 . . . . . . . . 2865 . . . . . . . . 2795 . . . . . . . 2955 . . . . . . .2720

70 . . . . . . . . 3085 . . . . . . . . 3010 . . . . . . . 3185 . . . . . . .2930

75 . . . . . . . . 3310 . . . . . . . . 3230 . . . . . . . 3410 . . . . . . .3140

80 . . . . . . . . 3530 . . . . . . . . 3440 . . . . . . . 3640 . . . . . . .3350

85 . . . . . . . . 3750 . . . . . . . . 3660 . . . . . . . 3865 . . . . . . .3560

And for full throttle acceleration considerations, here is a break down of what speed you are going at the top of each gear just befor shifting to the next higher gear (assuming shifting at stock redline of 7,000 RPM) and what RPM you enter the next higher gear at.

Gear . . . . AWD DSM. . . . . . . EVO VIII. . . . . . . . EVO IX. . . . . . . . EVO MR

1st . . . . . 34.4 (3800) . . . . . 40.0 (4700) . . . . 42.1 (4900) . . . .39.8 (4700)

2nd . . . . . 62.8 (4650) . . . . 60.1 (5150) . . . . 60.1 (5200) . . . .59.6 (5200)

Makes me wish I had the MR with 6-speed instead.

I've always wanted the 6-speed for the very reason of lower highway cruising RPM.

Even an Evo VIII would be nice compared to the IX. OH well.

I never realized IX gearing was so much shorter than VIII.

I sure did...

Just wanted to add that you can go around 126mph at the top of fourth on the MR tranny at 8500rpm. :D

One of the primary reasons why I wanted the MR w/ 6-speed. I was so spoiled with my TT Stealth and it's 6-speed. Barely turning 2000 RPM @ 70 MPH in 6th - great touring gear.

All scheides' talk about X gearing in his project thread got me to thinking about the gearing on those things. Is it much different from 8/9's? Anyone done a log good enough to add to this first post?
