Yes they are, the air comes in the front of the car(over the Radiator i believe) and up on top of the IC and down though the motor. They designed it so it would flow out with the rest of the air coming though the radiator though the bottom of the motor so there's no risk of backwards flow of air, even at idle. I.E. the radiator fan motor pushing air into the engine bay and up out though the TMIC piping.

Bringing this thread back from the dead. I had a 1G on the dyno the other night that had a TMIC style setup with the intercooler in the engine bay going right into the throttle body. I have before spool up data too from when it used to have a FMIC. The final air temps and the amount the air temps increased during a run were horrible, but it's harder to get air to a TMIC setup versus FMIC setup on the dyno. The temps were decently worse than what I see with a typical Subaru with a TMIC though.

I would imagine any car would have a hard time keeping cool on the dyno with a TMIC. What application were they using it for? (Rally, ice race, etc)

Ice racing. Yea, TMICs are harder to deal with on the dyno. They do perform poorly on the street too at low mph or if your idling for a bit waiting to make a run at the strip or autox, versus a FMIC that gets to sit out front and cool down regardless.

It could use some TLC, basic maintenance, and some different parts put on it.
