This surface is probably the easiest on the cars of all the venues around here. I'm bringing the MR2 out of retirement for one last run. I've never done well at this venue, but I've always had a good time doing it.
Can't wait!! Only a few more days!! We need more entries. Come on, there's someone coming out from Denver to compete. Nobody around here can use the excuse "it's too far away." Now if your car is broke (which most modded DSM's usually are), that's a different story.

I'm confused as to how pea gravel could be easier on your car... Seems like it would do more damage than soft dirt.

Ok, there is a Rally X on November 1st. I want to go, but don't have a car to drive. My Stealth is too low and I don't think slicks or extreme performance summer tires are the right tires for Rally X.
1st question: Can two people drive the same car at a Rally X?
2nd question: Can I drive your car? :D

Sorry to get back to you so late on this one.
It's not so much the pea gravel as it is the ruts and bumps that form easier in a soft field than a hard packed gravel parking lot.
We have the rallycross coming up on Nov 1st and possibly one on Nov 21st. Nov 1st is in Cannon Falls. The 21st will possibly be up in Elk River. I'm not sure on the location for the 21st, but it's almost a go.
I would let someone else run my car as well, but I don't know if it would stand up to twice the torture in one day.

ah, gotcha. Thanks for the explanation. I'll be there at both events, assuming they both happen! I'm kinda thinking that they're both gonna be wet though. I didn't realize that the race could be so easily canceled by a bit of rain. I totally think we could have run the last time. I know my car wouldnt have any problems getting around :)

Ahh, yeah, you would've got stuck. If Amy's car with rally tires on and mine with winter tires had a hard time, anything with street tires would've been stuck. The problem is the clay and silt. It clumps up and packs into everything.
We are checking out the field tomorrow to see how it is. A little rain is fine, but that field can not sustain large amounts in a short time.
There is talk of a field in Elk River that we may end up using. I'll keep you guys posted as to whether it will be in Cannon Falls or Elk River this weekend.

As of Wednesday evening the course is usable. Erik's Honda CRV was able to negotiate around the field surface. He said that the vehicle sank a little, it was a little slick, but traction improved as it packed down.
Tires will be king on Sunday!
We will be monitoring the conditions. We will re-evaluate on Friday, and again on Saturday depending on the weather. I will be in contact with the landowner about the weather to determine if there needs to be any last-minute checks.
I will try to keep everybody as up to date as possible.

This is the word from the eventmaster. I was the one that went out and drove the field. It's slippery with street tires on the CRV. But I never got stuck. I was even able to drive up the south hill to the normal paddock area without sliding or spinning tires. I will be going down friday night to check out the conditions with this rain coming.

Right now, it's sunny and windy down here. If we don't get anymore rain, 2 days of sun and wind should really dry things up good.
Stay tuned, we'll have an update tomorrow in the early afternoon as to whether or not we will be using the Cannon Falls site. Thank you everyone for your patience with this.
