In order to have a good running turbo 80's car, you have to think like a turbo 80's car.

Drop that spark plug gap down. Just keep going till the problem goes away man. Or throw money at it. New coil, etc.

Also, if you haven't already, perhaps when you upgrade exhaust systems you will be smart and add a coil and spark plug in the exhaust tip for hot flame thrower action. Mayeb it won't work since you don't really have a mass air sensor, but it might!

When does gap get *too* close? Stock calls for .35 which I think is crazy, I put it down to .27 and that helped a lot. The coil looks somewhat new and it's aftermarket, that's the first thing I thought. The Alternator is fairly strong at WOT at 14.4 volts or so (using a multimeter). I think the next thing I might buy is a new coil just to be sure, should I try gapping them closer? What do the old mitsus run for gap?

Evo's run down near .020" and DSM's generally around .025-.030". You can try gapping them down further to see if it helps.

Ya don't be afraid to bring the gap down to .24 if you have to. Smaller gap makes up for the point at which your coils cannot bridge the big gap recommended by the manufacturer for lower boost applications, whether its in top performing shape or not. +1 on a new set of plugwires, I think someone said that.

It definitely seemed to like .025" on the new NGK plugs. I say try .027" tomorrow and see if it'll take that. I never had to run smaller than .030" in my 1G's, but those ignition systems are fairly strong. I think a lot of the issue lied within the Autolite plugs you originally purchased.

Yeah I'll try that tomorrow. Effin' TD guys saying to get autolites! I've always liked NGK's the most but figured they had years of experience on this shit. It was fun cruising tonight, I think if I had just been in the car the MS3 would have been a closer match!

It's amazing how much it pulls in 4th AND 5th with two people in the car, just an absolutely fun as hell car to drive. I'm beyond happy with my purchase/hard work now.
