Well the shell I picked up and was selling parts off of got towed this passed weekend.. I was keeping it at a friend's house to keep it in his garage so it WOULDN'T get towed. But my friend decided to leave it outside for the weekend while he was home in St. Louis. I just called the place today and they said right now the car is at $370 and goes up $40 a day. Well I got the damn thing for only $200 so yea.. Fuck that. Plus right now I'm here in MN for 3 weeks and not down in IL so the bill will continue to add up. I asked if I could just leave the car there and they said give us $100, title, and keys and you wont have to worry about it. So I think that's my only option concidering I have no money at the moment. This really sucks cause the car still had some really good parts including black leather seats! I may try and take some stuff out of it when I go give them the title. (Hopefully) I'm really kinda ticked off at my friend for his lazyness but what can ya do..

I'd make your friend pay the fine at the least, it's his fault it got towed.

Maybe I'll get him to pay half. He said he tried to push it into his garage but couldn't by himself. Although I pushed that thing around my parking lot quite a few times..

wow if your paying someone to take it you should at least be able to strip it of what you want. its not like it will ever run again

Seriously, don't give them a dime! they have no legal power to take money from you, if they go through the trouble of towing a car, they run the risk of not re-couping the money that they think that they are going to get.
My buddy works for a towing joint, and he basically steals cars

I have a friend that had TWO cars that got towed at some point on the street that he never paid for and never went to get. The first one the windows had been smashed and stereo stolen when he went to get it, so he just left it. That was an old Chevy Citation w/ a massive handicapped sticker on the dash.
The next one was an 86 vw scirocco that he had bought 3 years earlier for $600. He put about 30k miles on it and never changed the oil, never fixed anythign on it, it was an absolute death trap. The doors wouldn't lock, and he just left the keys in the ignition. He had left it parked on the street overnight and they were doing street cleaning. When he go to work, a co-worker said, 'you should move your car so it doesn't get towed!' ....he misheard them and thought they said, 'I moved your car, so it doesn't get towed'...since he leaves the keys in it and all...LOL! Anyways, it got towed, he never went to get it.

One of my army buds borrowed a friends car, and it ended up getting towed. He never did go and get it, because the impound fee was so rediculous and he ended up losing his buddies' $3k car because of his own stupidity.
I guess once the fee gets so big, they end up auctioning these things off though, so that might be something you want to keep track of. Just think, pretty much anybody other than you has no clue what this car still has in it, so you might be able to get it back for cheaper if it ends up being auctioned off.

+1 on saying FU to the towing company. I wouldn't even let them know you have no plans on getting it. Just leave it there and forget about it. Don't bring them the keys or the title. They won't get much of anything for a parts car without a title or the keys.

Alright but the lady on the phone said if I just left it there they could suspend my license if I don't pay. I'm already on probation for like 6 more months and can't get into ANY trouble at all.
