Work out an agreement with them. Tell them you'll bring them the title and keys, but no cash, and you get to take the seats out of it. Right now they're stuck with a worthless and broken car so you're in a position to negotiate.

To answer a few Questions / Comments from my personal experience...
+1 on saying FU to the towing company. I wouldn't even let them know you have no plans on getting it. Just leave it there and forget about it. Don't bring them the keys or the title. They won't get much of anything for a parts car without a title or the keys.
I couldnt agree more with saying F it and leaving it there, If it were a running and driving car they can get a title for it after so many days (I believe 120 Days) and a key is no problem to make..
Alright but the lady on the phone said if I just left it there they could suspend my license if I don't pay. I'm already on probation for like 6 more months and can't get into ANY trouble at all.
They wont suspend your license, Or at least they wont in MN, What they do is file a summons to get you into court to try to collect there money. Sometimes they wont do this if the cars already auctioned but sense your car isn't technically worth anything, They might take you to court to try and recover some of thier money. I've had quite a few cars towed and i just left them there. They threatened me with court, ETC but in the end nothing happened because they probably auctioned them off and got there money out of them.

There is no negotiation, They wont let you take anything out of the car either. As soon as you pay is when you can take your stuff out of the car. Personal items are a different story unless the car was used to commit a crime, Then nothing leaves.
-I would do a little reasearch and find out what the laws are there regarding "Abandoning A Vehicle"
I believe each state is different but this is what i know about MN, Either from personal experience or reading..
Sorry about the long post, Hope this helps you out a little. If i were you id just leave it.

Thanks for the info. If they tried to bring me to court my parents would probably try and kill me.. They are currently paying for my rent, gas, and all other bills. Now having the car towed is really gonna tick them off. I haven't told em yet. I'll do some research on IL laws about that and see what I come up with.

I'd also vote giving them the finger and letting them keep it, but given your situation $100 (or $50 if your friend splits it) may be worth it to not have to worry about anything with your license or parents.

No offense to your friend, but he should have let you known ahead of time that he couldn't get it into the garage, that way you could have attempted to make other arrangements so this didn't happen.
I'd tell him he gets to pay it (unless he did tell you about it prior to it being towed).
I've also never heard of anyone getting their license suspended for leaving a car impounded (I also live in MN though).

Yeah my friend never told me he couldn't get it into the garage.. We got into it a little bit today trying to make him pay half but I don't like arguing especially with friends. I think I'm just gonna leave the car there. I only live down in IL for 5 more months, I'm not licensed in IL, the car isn't under my name, and I was never notified so if they try to track me down I'll say I never knew it was towed and I thought the car was still at my friend's place.

I dont think you understand.
You do NOT have to do ANYTHING.
I have friends that WORK at a TOWING COMPANY.
They have no legal right to do anything.
DO NOT GIVE THEM MONEY

yeah well if the car isnt in your name thy cant go after you . They go after who ever the cars name is in. if you go down with money dont give them anything. only if you want to get a car back. they will not give you anything out of the car. they do not care about you or what is in your car they are more stuck on getting there money. you could just leave it there and when the auction comes up go and try to buy it back. i have done that before myself lol. do not give them the 100 dollars for the car or the title or the keys.! F the towing company they are so stuck on getting there money it even isnt funny. They are some places around here that if they tow your car they only take cash so they dont have to pay taxes on it. pretty stupid huh. They can basically do whatever they want. They have the power that me or you will never have. so i would a. leave the car just forget the car is there. b. i would forget the car is there and go to the auction and try to buy it back. or c i woul djust move to a different state and not matter about anything.. Best of luck keep all of us informed of what is happening.
