Thats because Hawaii was annexed. They could still be considered their own governmental body, just that they are too small and powerless to legitimately rise against the US government.
And too lazy ;)

And Texas can either withdraw from the US or split itself up into as many as 5 states.
True... we did annex texas too from mexico....

I could see this being a legitimate position with Pelosi and Reid trying to federalize everything. The Constitution is is being modified by the hour from the sounds of it. Power to the people is gone, but I can see an uprising if this keeps heading this way.:5shotss:

In the case of both Texas and Hawaii they were independant nations (Texas won their battles of independance with Mexico) before becoming part of the US. Hawaii for hundreds of years and Texas for about 20.
State's having power is all bullshit, as far as I know states only have the power to make laws MORE restrictive than what is laid down by the federal government. Oh yay, lets do that.
