Tis true, they have a basic speed density setup for "limp home mode" which means unplug the mass and let er buck. Then tune accordingly.

Word. Also they have a better injector setup. They fire their injectors; 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2. The 83-85 and 87-89 fire; 1, 1, 1, 1, 12, 12, 12 - like a carb. So the 86 ECU is half way to being MPI. You seem to have what's needed to go almost all the way.

Why did they change back for 87-89?

Well, that information is true, but somewhat misleading. The 86 ecu doesn't like it when you raise the boost past 13 or 14 psi, if you can even get there. Yes, you can take out the mass air sensor in SOME of the 86's. some cars don't care and might run better, others might run worse. There is a way to use a 1G mass air sensor with the 86 setup.
The 87-89 ecu, when used in conjunction with a 1G mass air sensor or a 1G maf translator allows for very high boost with no fuel cut (much higher than you could ever get with a 12a or 14g). The 86 does have a map sensor, but no AIT sensor. You can try unplugging the mass air sensor, but I'd wait till you have a wideband installed. Your stock boost gauge won't work either I bet.
Well, there already is no mas on my set up, its just a filter, and it did have a FCD installed but thats been taken out for some reason. The factory boost guage does work, but I dont trust it like a good DSM boy. I read about that 1g MAS set up and it sounds good, because if you can get a 1g mas to work, you should be able to get a 2g, or 3g mas to hook Id imagine. But I dont have the money yet to figure that out yet. Besides, Im still in the process of deciding if I wanna do a 2.4/3 swap into this beast and kick it that way. and just save the other two motors as back ups.

I'd rock the g54 till it blows, then throw in a 4g setup and sell the other g54
Hmmmm, Im going to disagree with you there... Id rather have 3 engines, and blow up a 4g63/4 first before I blew up my stock motors.

Didn't it come with a race built engine already? Why scrap that?
The rebuilt engine is already out of the car, and the g54 set up is still semi ghey because of the FI system. And 4g6x's have alot better mod support.

LS1! Fun cars, but they really need bigger turbo's to be a lot of fun.
