This will be my first year that I can claim mortgage interest. I don't know what to expect.

Hope I get a decent return. It will all go into savings, for a new car most likely.

I expect it will put a big smile on your face, like it does for me every year :)

You can do a rough guess. You probably know about what you owe on your house. Take that and times it by your interest rate and that will be close to what you paid in interest on your mortgage this year. If you haven't lived in your house for the whole year, you have to come up with a percentage. Then figure you'll get 25-33% of that money back. (depending on your tax bracket)

I hope so. Last year I got screwed because Goodyear wasn't taking out enough tax. So that was changed this year.
You can do a rough guess.
Ah ok. Thats a nice amount. I'd rather get the amount back before I estimated the 25-33% of the total ;)

Usually for me (since I've only owned for 3 years), about 2 months worth of my payments actually go towards the principle, and the other 10 months are all interest. I'm sure it's different for everyone, but maybe gives you an idea. All that interest is a huge write off!!!
I also write off my property taxes which is another perk of owning also. Another couple grand usually.

If you think Obama has anything to do with your 2008 taxes you need to get a clue Tom.

I lol'd.
Property taxes... I forgot about those. They are rolled up into my mortgage payment. This just keeps sounding better and better. :spin:
