dsm coil pack. I want to learn how to tune, but I might need some lessons from a pro before I'd feel confident.

I usually end up teaching/tuning, makes it easier as owners can be more hands on with their car, especially if they switch out components.

I admit it was pretty hard to learn it at first but after I read the instructions step by step it worked out good for me.
I suggest read the instructions and try it out for yourself first and then when you want to get the system really dialed in, dyno the car. Thats better money spent
I don't read forums, forums read me.
but since it is hard to read forums and instructions maybe it is best to get lessons.....

that reading forums bit is a take off of a robert downey Jr. line from tropic thunder, "I don't read the script, the script reads me."
anyway, I will be reading up on this stuff. I need to forget about the car for a while and make some money to pay for the tuning eventually.

Wow, I was going to ask a tuning question, but now it's a "why am I so dumb" question. Why is my most recent map that I've been "tuning" on the car not the same as it was just a few hours ago when it was hooked up to the car? I click "save file" whenever I make a change when it's hooked up, but now, looking at it offline, it is absolutely not the same as before. What am I doing wrong that I can't see the file as I saw it before? Only difference is I am not connected to the car.

Alright. I figured out my dumbness and here is the latest from my efforts to get this as close as possible over the winter.
I still have some problem with big throttle movements from idle, it goes lean for a second. This is with the engine warmed up.
If anyone wants to take a gander at this .cal file and maybe give a helping hint, suggestion or critique, that would be very nice.
on a side note, I started making a "from scratch" file where I started with a blank slate, and almost got myself into some trouble, but mainly, it turned out to be PEBKAC.
Thanks.
EDIT: I'm just leaving this up to show what not to do. I had the wrong size injectors selected. I have 750's and had chosen 850s (the closest option) back before I upgraded to the v1.19 firmware which now had 750's in the list of injector calibrations. I was trying to compensate for a lean condition and crappy revving from idle with a whole lot of tip-in fuel from dTPS and dMAP, but that just screwed everything up. I have since deleted this stupid .cal file and started over with proper settings, and life is much better now. See below.

could it be that I need to adjust tip in for air temp as well Bueller?
Yeah, it likely is tip in that needs to be adjusted.

well, it is. I meant coolant, not air temp, but even if I had said coolant, I don't know if it would matter, since I haven't even gotten it to tip in correctly with the car warmed up.

If I have time tonight I'll peak at the cal file. I need to make a few basemaps for a guy in texas tonight anyway...

Thanks, BUT, you should disregard that map. I had spend so much time using it, trying to change it and make it work that I forgot I had some basic settings wrong on that map.
I started with a fresh 1300 MAP.cal file, set everything to the right sensors, correct size injectors (yeah, I'm retarded, but that was probably the main problem), and only set the timing, TPS range and raised up about 3-4 squares in the idle range of the fuel map so it would idle fine.
Now it's at 14-15 AFR at idle, revs really cleanly, almost with no issues whatsoever, and sound MUCH better. Cranks over better, starts faster. Everything is better now. I had been going down the wrong path for so long that I didn't want to believe I could have done something wrong.
Next time the roads dry out a bit, I am going to drive it around, see if there are any major problems (which I doubt) and then maybe think about arranging for tuning. I believe I can get it pretty close myself now.
