It was a pretty exciting day for me today. I've been working for the same company for 3 years now in the Field Service group. I've learned a lot, and have busted my ass in this position ever since I started. It required a lot of travel and took a lot out of me over the last 3 years.

But today things changed. I had an interview a couple weeks back for a new position within the company. Just this morning the Software Engineering Supervisor called me into his office and gave me an offer and I accepted. I'm now going to be a Software Engineer for the company. I think it's pretty cool as I have no college degree, only the free Military schooling that I got my first couple years in the military, and only 3 years of experience with this company. I'm really excited! The job doesn't require nearly as much travel as the old position did. I will still travel here and there because Field Service is in dire need of people, and I'm sure I'll be called upon to help here and there when I can. I'm also hoping I get assigned to the new AP1000 nuclear plant design so I can be a part of designing something that Tom is completely against!! There's already been 8 of them ordered, 4 of them being for the US. The first US nuke plants purchased since the 70's.

Anyhow, just thought I'd share my good news! yeehaw!

Congrats. Let us know how it goes as the days go on. Does this new position involve alot of what you used to do or is it alot of new material?

I'm glad PAR Nuclear/Westinghouse stayed in Shoreview!

We deal with the software a lot in the Field Service group, which is how I've gotten a good understanding of it all over the past few years. Now I will just have to learn a bit more about it because it's all I'll be doing in the new position.

And I will still be busting my ass Kevin :) I just get to go home at the end of the day, and not to some hotel :D

Sleepy - I don't think PaR Nuclear was ever going to leave Shoreview. It was our building, so we were always staying. We kicked our sister company PaR Systems out not too long ago, so it was up to them wherever they moved, but they stayed in Shoreview as well.
