It's actually kinda cool. It kind of looks like they are finaly getting away from the green-house look.

I'm just confused as to why 2.2L and is it going to be another newly designed block? Because isn't the Evo X using a newly designed Mitsu block?

It will be a diesel engine, that's why.

I'm just wondering what the MSRP is going to be... the reason they cheaped out on the RA Eclipse (pic posted above) was because the cost would be in the neighborhood of an EVO 9, and it would also be an AWD turbo, so they would basically have a sport coupe and sedan in their own line-up competing against each other.

At least that's what I heard. So if they next generation Eclipse turns out to be the turbodiesel 2.2L AWD compact, i'd be interested to see the price tag. As much as I like my v6, I wish they had stuck with the 4 cyl NA and 4 cyl turbo of the DSM era.

I would hope that the new diesel engine block would be designed close to a gas engine block and hopefully with a little bit of modification could be switch to gas. Diesel blocks are always overbuilt.
but probably not...

Sorry man, but you need to study up on diesels. For a boosted application diesel is superior to gas by a long shot. They are also extremely different. The way a diesel engine is engineered is very different from gas engines. You can run Rau levels of boost on diesel fuel.
