Garage heat

Ok winter warriors I am constantly out in the garage working and winter wont hold me back at all so i was wondering what you guys use to heat a garage. I have just a 1 car with no windows or vents so Im looking for something to keep me warm. Ideas???

You can get one of those torpedo propane heaters from menards for a little bit of money. They work off of a thermostat. Otherwise wood burning stoves do wonders. If you paint, those torpedo heater things will kick up dust and shit because it's like a huge torch inside of a metal cylinder lol.

usaully I toss on a long sleeve shirt and 2 sweatshirts and thats usually good for me :). I have a torpedo thing but its loud and doesnt heat my garage worth shit (3 car garage with no insulation)

Now with those propane heaters dont i need some sort of ventilation? I would love a wood stove but im not allowed to cut into the walls so whatever i do has to be vent free.

I would suggest an electric heater over anything. It doesn't need ventilation and you just have to plug it in and go. Any heater that requires fuel (wood, propane, kerosene) need ventilation. I have a kerosene torpedo heater and while it works quite well it is a little noisy and needs ventilation. After a while your clothes smell like you've been riding a snowmobile and if you don't have good ventilation your eyes will begin to burn.

I have a corn stove in mine, it is running right now! For a small place like that I would go with electric also. Cheap and easy. Any insulation in it? If not, that would be a good investment.

I just came from the garage, I have tried all sorts of heaters heres my review

Electric - Either worthless or fuse blower(wothless)
Kerosene - Quiet, minimal stink, not good enough for minnesota weather
Mr Heater(propane) - cheap cheap cheap, directional, lasts a long time
Torpedo - Works great, loud as shit, dont spray brake clean while in use
Corn - Jet is one smart motherfucker

Overall, insulation is the answer, no matter how much heat you have, if your garage leaks heat, you lose.

SO HOW WOULD YOU KNOW ABOUT THE BREAK CLEAN?!? LOL!!!

in my opinion get a bullet heater, and when your garage gets up to temp use a oil heater to keep the temp constant......thats what i do and i usually am out there in a t-shirt!!!

buy a lot of roll-out insulation and do it that way. insulate the door too! it will keep it significantly warmer even without a seperate heater.

My garage is 20'x20' (2 car) and well insulated. Once up to temp it will stay there with a 1500w electric heater until the temps get down to 0. With the corn stove I don't worry about it though. Fire it up on high for an hour, then go out and turn it down to level 1.
