My clutch master & or slave went bad today! I had to take the work beater truck home! I tried bleeding it with no luck. tried twice. The fluid that came out at first was pretty black as was the stuff in the reservoir. I started by sucking most of the fluid out of to start with all new fresh fluid. & bled it till it had no air & the fluid was clear... still no luck, so I think I need a new master cylinder & I might as well do the slave @ the same time. Grrr what fun!! Do you think I can get the parts @ O'Reillys? Do you have any other ideas why I can't get it in gear.
Thanks!

if your bleeding it, and fluid is coming out, the master cylinder is working and more than likely is fine. I'd look twards your slave, or clutch first
I also thought that this was gonna be a sweet dominatrix thread before i opened it :(

Even if the fluid in the reservoir was dark?? or is that just beacuse of the rubber hose degrading? Ill try the slave first. Fairly cheap part. :)

LMAO :)
Yeah, I wasn't thinking drivetrain parts at first either
Get under the car and watch the slave cylinder while someone presses on the clutch. You can see the slave push the clutch fork from the outside. If that is working then your clutch is toast probably. Does the clutch pedal feel mushy or anything?

probably just the slave... with the car off I can put it in gear & with the clutch pressed in I can start the car...it starts rolling as I start it.. I let it.. and then when I let the clutch out it engages quickly. Just not enough pressure to lift the heavy plate thats in it, or thats what I'm hoping to be able to fix with replacing the slave. :)

what brand is best here ---->http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductList.aspx?PartType=236&PTSet=A
The disks go bad a lot. The link didn't work.
If it is a 1g, then I would go with the Beck/Arnley, only a few bucks more.

There is a Southbend DXD in that car. Another way to see if it's one of the cyls is to pump the clutch. If you can pump the clutch 3-4 times and then hold it down, and then shift/put the car in gear, then it is probably the slave cyl.
Do what JET said and have someone pump the clutch while you're under the car looking at the slave cyl. Make sure the rod is moving a good inch back and forth as they push.
