So I went to school for the first half of this year so I am covered under my parents insurance until Jan 1 2008. I heard that MN just past a bill that states that anyone under the age of 25(I am 21) can be covered for health insurance regardless of their education status. I did some digging and came up with this...
http://www.revisor.leg.state.mn.us/bin/bldbill.php?bill=H0475.0.html&session=ls85

Did that go through or is it just "on the table"? Because it just so happens according to that it starts Jan 1 2008 which is the same time mine expires. So if this is true then I will be covered for another 3 years. I had my mom contact our insurance company and they had no idea what we were talking about. I dont know anything about legal stuff so maybe someone here can help me understand this.

who is your insurance through?

if you call them and they have no idea, then it might not have passed yet. or the person she talked to at the insurance company is just a dumbshit... probably a dumbshit imo, cause i know, i work for UHG.

oh i read the link. since you have existing coverage....

EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective January 1, 2008, and applies to
1.12coverage offered, sold, issued, or renewed on or after that date.

i highly doubt you would get that coverage, unless it renewed on jan 1 and was expressed in the contract. but go fight for it man. doesnt hurt to try.

Well maybe because they are kicking me off they will have to renew it, which would in turn make me covered. I hope they do cover me otherwise im screwed.

Most young adults don't have health insurance, it isn't a big deal. I didn't have it for about 5 years.

Because I work in the medical field (hospitals in particular) I would say try as hard as you can to have insurance, because when you least expect it you will need it. And if you don’t have it, most places wont take you or give you the full service you need, and if they do, you will be in debt forever.

Right now you have to be a full time student, but from reading that it sounds like it is gong to change this year and if yours runs out on the 1st and you renew it then, you should not have a problem. I would call your company again and ask to speak with someone who knows what is going on.

I will see what I can do. I took a year off school and had to pay health insurace. It cost me $330 a month.
