Because he was asking if he should buy one and wanted feed-back. If what I heard was true, he might have wanted to think twice about getting a touch.

Also my friend and his two brothers all have the Iphones, and they all said the internet is slow, and the mp3 player is laggy. Which would also be something he might want to know before he tosses a bunch of money towards Apple.

I just don't think the Iphone lived up to all the hype it recieved, and is still getting.

I have always wondered about the giant screens on these new media players. How common is cracking on them?

ABV is right. Flash memory has huge advantages compared to hard drives. It's less fragile, uses less power, is smaller, etc... Once 40GB+ sizes are available at a reasonable price hard drive portable players are going to be junk comparitively. Until then I can't justify spending big money for an 8 gig player.

I decided to spend an extra 100 for the 16gb version. I currently have an 8gb sandisk player and that holds more than enough for a week long vacation. I figure with the extra 8 gb on the touch I can hold a few movies or shows. I won't be able to hold everything I have, but more than enough for what I need.

Everyone I know who has an Iphone was too affraid to walk out of the store without it in a hard case. But I'd guess it would be pretty easy to screw them up considering they are touch screen... Plus I've heard they charge something like $300 to fix the broken screen, and it wont be covered under insurance.

Dude, stop this nonsense! I have had an iphone since they came out. Zero scratches, I've even dropped the thing once or twice and its fine. They are really marvelous little devices in that they are quite robust. Apple has learned from the original nano that people use the crap out of these things and they need to be super scratch resistant. The screen/touchscreen on the iphone and ipod touch is made from tempered glass, it does not scratch very easy. I certainly don't beat on the thing but I don't treat it like a delicate piece of crystal. I'm sure it is expensive to replace the screen but they are quite tough!

Here, this is a quote off EverythingIphone.com...

My iphone fell when i was trying to put it in my pocket, (about 3ft from the ground) and when i picked it up, the screen was completly wrecked. I wanted to throw up but at least it still worked. Well as the days went by, the part of the screen that unlocks the phone stopped working.....i could get it to unlock but only after like 60 tries. The second row of keys on the keyboard didnt work AT ALL. So no texting, no web surfing, no phone contacts. Well at least I could still make calls. Bam 1 week later, the screen doesnt function at all, and I am left with a 600 dollar brick.

I called apple care the day after it fell while it was still functional. I spoke with 3 different people. 1 told me the only thing i could do was buy a whole new phone....screw that. The other two told me it would cost 250 dollars to repair. My local apple store told me the same thing. I dont have 250 dollars to spare, and would really like a new phone. How the hell did you and the other guys pull this off. PLEASE HELP I AM IN iPHONE HELL.

My iPhone Touchscreen broke - iPhone sent away for 3 days about.

So I go to use my email, and I can't get into the inbox.
I thought email was messed up, but it turns out, a line/section of my touchscreen isn't working.

Figures, cause I have a 7 series screen.

I go to apple store with all my box, receipt etc..I've had it for 1 month.
The apple genius bar tech tells me that normally they give loaner phones while mine is being sent out for repair. She says that no loaner phones left. I'm like great.

I still have my Sony Ericsson k790a and sim card pops right in, so I can use that. So now I'm waiting 3 business days for them to ship it to my house.

I tell my friend, and he says he's on his 3rd iPhone cause he keeps dropping it. Meanwhile mine malfunctions and they make me send it out?
That is so whack. What if I didn't have a backup cell phone?

So unfair, they should have just gave me a new 8GB right there on the spot since mine wasn't dropped, had screen protector on it, and all.

I talked to 5 different reps. at Apple Care Center. 4 of 5 told me to cough up 220-250 dollars. 1 person told me it was covered by my warranty, that was the person I asked to send me the box. I told every person the same story. It was my fault (I dropped it) but, I wanted to know if it was covered by warranty.

happened to me, but you might search around here for details about what happened to my situation (which apple finally took care of yesterday!).

long story short, you will be paying for the repair as accidental damage is not covered (my quote was $275). i got lucky because some repair tech slipped the wrong repair bill thingy into my box and i called apple on their mistake.

It's gonna cost me 215.00 to repair! I don't expect them to repair it for free. But I can't believe that they have to charge 215.00 for a piece of optical glass. This is the first phone I have ever dropped. Couldn't come at a worse time. Not asking for pity but I was layed off from work last night and I dropped it in the parking lot on my last night. Thanks to the posters who tried to help and offered me advice.
