Ok so last night i was on my way to a friends house and i noticed that everytime i shifted up there would be a rattle noise coming from (what seemed to be) the driverside either front or rear of the car. i got about 6 miles till my car just died. no pop, no fires, the idiot lights came on and the car rolled to a stop. i towed the car to the nearest parking lot and a checked it out. The car sometimes will crank (almost run), but most times will seem like its frozen (turn the ignition and nothing happens, engine doesnt budge.) i was pushing the car in neutral, i also checked the timing, its perfect. the towing guy said that the clutch might be out.

any opinions?? im going to try to get it into a shop, but i dont know where to bring it, where there not going to tell me the other 100 reason what "needs" to be replaced..

I can possibly get a video up of what it does..

thanks !

alex.

Check the oil on the dipstick, look for shavings. That would be bad. Next, take off the cam belt cover, than turn the engine over and see if it turns at all. If not, you've locked something up and the motor needs a rebuild or replacement if it's really bad, most likely not though if you didn't have a small engine fire from pistons coming through the side of the block.

Checked oil, no shavings.

i do have a leaky turbo (smoke from the exhaust) once in a while, and i have to put a quart in about ever 500-1000miles. but i think my pressure was good.. i noticed on the dipsit there are two slits.. my oil is below the lowest slit, but shows to the first marking on the oil pressure gauge while on the highway.

im scared that something went dry and locked up.

its weird that the engine is stuck and doesnt want to turn over, then almost starts to run after turning the key couple times

How is your timing? Compression check? Boost leak Check? Did your intercooler piping pop off?

im going to check compression soon as i find a tester. timing is fine.. car almost wants to start tho sometimes.. i think the compression is good..

if the piping was off, or if theres a boost leak it would still start tho right???

Why are you running your oil below the "low" mark? Have it towed to one of the board sponsor shops, they fix your car and actually know what they are talking about when it comes to DSM's unlike a lot of repair shops.
