On TLC at 8 they had "rides" where they put a V8 into a is300 and added some body parts to it. Its on agian at 10 on TLC. I saw the last part and it seemed okay....
saw it, the hot rod was tight, why you would swap one of the best toyota motors (2jz) out of the is300 to put in a v8 is beyond me, the inline 6 has way more to offer, but hey if your rich i guess you can do what you want,
thank goodness for tivo

the 2jz that comes in the is300 is the 2jz-ge, not the 2jz-gte (the one that came in the supra). The 2jz-ge is not that easy to turbo. A 2jz-gte swap with a t-66 or t-78 would have been much better.
Supra TT engine is a common swap in the is 300s. A mkiv swap in a lexus is like a rb20 in a 240 for a rich guy. People also turbo the stock motor is 300s.

Actually, turboing IS300's stock motor is pretty common, not throwing in the supra's 2JZ.

Turboing the 2JZ-GE is not insanely hard or anything, hell, to put a single on a Supra TT you end up having to replace a crap load of parts. But the 2JZ in the IS300 is not the same one found in the SC300 and non-turbo Supras. The older 2JZ-GE has the same strong rods, crank and block found in the turbo version, it's just higher compression. The new 2JZs have much weaker rods and the IS300 uses a returnless fuel system and VVTI, so it's a pain to work with.

When i said turbo I was talking about making 450+ RWHP. Obviously the gte engines have no trouble making that. On the NA 2jz-ge engine, I haven't seen more that ~450 rwhp. Given that I don't have any hands on experience, this is just what I have read. Ecoli, thanks for the update. I didn't know they made significant changes to the new 2jz-ge. I have also heard that the new, as in bought from a toyota dealership, 2jz-gte engines are failing very soon after being installed. Something about lack of oil/lubrication. Noah

The top 2 HP numbers on our 6 cylinder board are using the NA 2JZ shortblock. Turbodave put stock GTE pistons and a turbo head on his though. The other one, an NA-T Supra, at the time it dynoed 601whp through an auto tranny here he just had a thicker headgasket on the stock motor.
Do the new 2JZ-GTE replacement motors from Toyota also have the weaker rods or are they still big?
