Well the gsx is going back to the shop today. On my way to an interview i was crusin down 35E and i started to hear a faint knock... by the time i reached 42 it had developed to a hard knock. i pulled over and opened the hood with the car running and still knocking and it sounded like it was right under the valve cover, like it was metal on metal. The knocking gets louder and faster as the RPMs rise. Im still boosting fine. I just had the turbo replaced, new timing belt, gaskets and the oil level is fine.
It is barely drivable and im not making very much power.
Any ideas?

Timing belt skipped a tooth or many. Could be the tensioner that either was installed wrong or is dieing.
I wouldnt drive it or you will get piston hitting valves syndrome.
Sounds like a serious internal problem. I wonder if the T belt skipped a tooth or 2? Damn Satan!

What about one of the balancer shaft bearings going out? They knock like a bitch when one of the bearings goes. Then again if it was the balancer shaft bearings the knocking should be reduced as the RPMs rise.

Bearing wouldnt make a knocking sound. Ive had a timing belt slip teeth on me. It definetly sounds like his problem. You start hearing the knocking (or logging it every time you step on the gas to get up to 0 vaccuum.)
It eventually get so bad that the teeth keep skipping and pistons hit the valves. Startup is the worst because of the sudden force on the TBelt.
If the balace shaft is off, you will definetly know as there will be ALOT of vibration.

If that is it, defenitly bad workmanship. Missing BS belts dont give too much more vibration. 92tsiawd84 was driving around with the bs belt snapped and it wasn't noticed until rick did the t belt. He had bad workmanship also because after 20K on the timing belt, there was a nice groove in it and the BS belt was snapped. BTW, the lack of power is caused by the auto tranny. Before getting my 2g, I looked at one not knowing if it was an auto of manual and it turned out to be an auto. I hit the gas and it fell flat on its face right away. I think it had a newer turbo also.

The TBelt might not have gone bad, the tensioner may have lost some tension... who knows.
I meant that if the balance shaft belt is off in terms of the gear(is not lined up with the marks.)

well wayzeta mitsu called saying it was something with the rods and bearings.
Of course it has nothing to do with their work, cause then they would have to pay for it.
