Just wondering what people have to say for this. I will be putting the head on the shortblock tonight. I will be fastening it with arps. My procedure will be:
1. hand tighten studs into block(no thread lock, no oil, no grease)
2.spray copper on both sides of HG(stock) and drop on block
3.drop head on
4.coat upper thread with engine assembly lube(sticky and red)
5.washer and nut go on
6.torque pattern using chiltons.
7.30,60,100-105f/lbs
I have put heads back on blocks but not on a turbo car before. Theres a lot of pressure and heat on turbo car that just doesnt exist in camrys and the like.
I want comments and criticism, I want to use everyones knowledge.

sounds good to me. Make sure there is no oil in the holes for the headstuds first though. Are you using arp's. I would use the molly lube if you have it, but I have doe it with the assembly lube before. I think the torue spec with ARP's is 95 though. Maybe someone else remembers.
We have had the debate back and forth, but I use threadlock on the bottom side of the studs. I have had them back out of the head. Also, assembly lube isn't what you want to use, the real ARP moly lube is what you want to use. It should have come with your studs. The rest sounds good.

If you don't use ARP moly lube, your torque specs are good with regular oil on threads. If you're using moly, go with 95 ft/lbs.

Blue or red? I know that red is "permanent" and it would be a bitch if you ever had to take the studs out.

Have you ever had any back out since you started using threadlock?

There are more differences between them than the color. My question was legitimate. Please stop posting.
I use the blue stuff and have taken them out after putting loctite on. I have had studs back out on 3 different occasions before loctiting them, none since I have done that.
I blow out the holes with air, spray it out with carb cleaner, then again with air. Then toss blue loc-tite on the threads and lightly snug down the studs with an allen wrench. I torque to 105 ft-lbs with ARP lube. Get much higher than that and you can run into stretching trouble. I still replace them once in a while.

Awesome. Blue is the standard on RC cars as well. :)
