Slightly on topic...
I've been wondering why people are currently joining? Is it for the college money or what?

I went in for the free schooling, and the opportunity to do a job no other 19 year old would be able to do with just schooling and no experience. Now I'm out, and all the bullshit and training sure payed off!

They have been offering very generous signing bonuses lately along with the tuition money. Why not currently join though? A lot of people do support the war, and as far as wars go (besides for Dessert Storm), this is one of the safer ones to be in.

What was your job/training while you were in the marines?
I have been kicking around the idea since probably 2002 but havent decided yet. After talking with an army buddy last night it only made me think about it more.

I went in for Avionics, which is pretty broad. I ended up being a 5953 Air Traffic Control Radar Technician. So I was the tech who fixed, maintained, setup the Radars at the Airports. I was in Pensacola, FL for 1 1/2 years gonig through the schooling. I have what they call "military equivalent of an associates" in electronics. All free, plus getting paid. So unlike college where you pay to go, and have to have a 2nd job to pay for shit. I went to school free, and that was my job was to go to school, so I got paid. My regular 8hr day at school was my 8hr work day, so i got paid as such!
3 1/2 years experience after I got out of school. So I got out 23years old, associates degree with experience as well, plus employeers LOVE former military for the most part. Got a great job now!

I've also been Toying with the Idea of going back to the Navy :/ although since I've been out I haven't done anything with my training that I've had except use the credits I recieved towards my current degree :p
I was also in pensacola for about 1 1/2 years doing Aviation Electronics
and I've had most of my furthering education needs paid for :D
