Yeah, i joined in Aug. '02 for the college money. A bit of a weird story why i joined, but i thought it was a good idea at the time. I have met a lot of cool people too. Marines rock, they kick a**

I personally wouldnt consider joining without the possibility of being deployed.
As for joining, I need to finish college first. After that is done I may join the Army. The Air Force is interesting, but I dont think it would be much fun unless you got to fly something fast, and I dont really like the odds in that respect. You probably have a better shot in the Navy, and I dont want to say anything bad about the Navy but....it aint my thing.

I've also been Toying with the Idea of going back to the Navy :/ although since I've been out I haven't done anything with my training that I've had except use the credits I recieved towards my current degree :p
I was also in pensacola for about 1 1/2 years doing Aviation Electronics
and I've had most of my furthering education needs paid for :D

No shit? Who were you're instructors? Ever heard of SSgt Sheffing? Well I heard he's a Cpl now due to some shit, but he was one of my I strand instructors, the only one I really remember. Did you know Gunney Guy? His wife was my boss in Japan. Pensacola was kick ass!!! I loved the beach, and I loved traveling to Panama City every other weekend and partying at Club La Vela!

Speaking as someone who is currently enlisted in the guard AND as someone who has deployed...Don't Do It!

the one line I tell people when they ask me about signing up is:

"The military should only be considered when you have failed in every other aspect of the civilian world."

the military takes people as old as 36, you can sign up later.

Nice pictures, but I completely disagree with your perspective. I do not feel I failed in any aspect of my life. I joined fresh out of high school. I wasn't a failure in school, I did very well in school. That allowed me to pick pretty much any job I wanted in the enlisted side. The military deffinately had it's shitty parts, but so does everything else. For giving me free schooling, and the experiences I had that no one else my age would have chances of doing otherwise, and the position I'm in now after I completed my contract, I reccomend it to anyone who is considering it. Hell you can even be a complete moron, going in and out of jail, and join the military and you will have a half way decent job considering you're situation. You always know you have a paycheck coming the 1st and 15th.

And I also disagree about waiting. Sure wait till your 36, then see how fun it is to go through boot camp. Hell no. Being a 36 y/o private isn't what I'd call a great time. then you get out at 40, and you're looking for a job. So the employer has you, a 40 year old, and on the other hand he has a 26 year old, has twice the experience as you because he joined when he was 18 and stayed in for 8 years, and plus is still only 28 so he has a ton of working years still left in him.

I'm 23, I spent 5 years in. I would not be in this position if it wasn't for the marines. I'm not rich, but I consider myself to be doing quite well compared to most other 23 year olds.

Everyone has their own opinion, that's mine. I say if you want to join, DO IT!!

BTW, I like the pic where you said "this is how we deal with camel spiders". This is how we dealt with them. Put a bunch in a bucket and had us a gladiator style fight!

Also nice to see I wasn't the only one with a wierd 'Top' who liked his hats!

At war or not, when you enlist you should expect to serve in any circumstance. The military is not for everybody, you are a prime example.
