WTB: CHEAP fuel efficient car!

So I sold my panda and I need to buy a new car. I would prefer a manual car. I'm looking for a car in the $500-$1000 range. The car must be a reliable car and not need any work to get it running good.

Car's I've been looking at: Ford Festiva, CRX, Dodge colt, and Geo metro's.
Something 4 cyl, manual and very fuel efficient!

Son of a.. Well I'm actually going to pick up ECMlink now. So my price range is more closer to $500. All I need is a decent little car that will get me to work and back. Also from Chicago to Oakdale once and awhile.

I will keep an eye out, have you looked on charitycarauctions.com. There are alot of cheap cars that go on there.

Used to be a good idea a few years ago until they ramped their fees up. All of those cars were donated so I would anticipate them needing some kind of work. I picked up a couple of cars from them in the past, both DSMs needing headwork. Bought them to fix and sell.

Hard to find a "reliable" car not needing any work at that price. Most cars at that price will have issues regardless but are just not worth fixing (shocks, etc). Most likely looking at an older car so I would look over balljoints, tie rods, etc. Regardless of what kind of car I bought at that price, I wouldn't trust driving it to Chicago.

Best bet for reliability would be an older Honda or Toyota. Definitly would be safer buying an import with higher miles than ANY domestic car at that price range. I would definitly stay away from charityautoaction.com with your criteria.

BTW, this is john, James was still logged in.

Motorcycle cop pulls up next to me on UNI and says "Want to race?"
Me- "I don't think you would stand a chance."
Cop says "probably not" and drives off.

Re: WTB: CHEAP fuel efficient car!

Looked at a festiva yesterday.. OMG was that a piece of shit and a half. The guy said all it needed was an exhaust and that it ran perfect. What a joke.. We even blew a brake line on it pulling 50ft off his driveway. I guess that bubble gum he put on didn't hold..
