Destroker kit, want to know all!

I just recently heard about a destroker motor for a dsm. I've been trying to find out some info about them, but can't seem to find a solid source of info. From what I understand, they're 4g64 blocks with 4g63 cranks and come out as a 2.1l motor. It's also my understanding that they rev around 10,000rpm, with an appropriately built head.

What I want to know are details, what piston/rod combos are used? Also if anyone on the site has had any experience with them. I like the idea of a real high revving motor, and just want to learn a bit more about them.

Re: Destroker kit, want to know all!

They utilize a 4g64 block, 4g63 crank, 156mm rods (Manley used to make a 6 bolt version that was recently discontinued, we are looking at having our rods produced in this length), and 2.4l pistons. The rod ratio is great and you get a bump in displacement, its the best of both worlds

What components should be use in the head? I'm guessing it's gonna have to be built, do to the high revs.

Yeah dual or beehive valve springs and lightweight everything would be a must for 10k plus...

Great concept, but good luck shifting at those speeds.

Re: Destroker kit, want to know all!

Buschur is selling these now, pretty bad-ass setup IMHO. My question is are there any weird issues with install? It uses a different water pump than the 4G63, but what else? Standard timing belt? Etc.

The most attractive thing about these for evo owners is the price. THe 4G63 evo core is EXPENSIVE to replace if you blow a hole through the block. Getting 7-bolt 4G64 thats suitable is cheap...buschur is selling their 2.1's for like $4k even, no core required (standard core for evo block is like $1800, and $700 for the crank). That is a freaking sweet deal if you make some windows with your rods.

These are not new though, idk what's stopped people from using them more before now. AMS has used them in their drag car for a few years, and I know QPR was building one back in the day. Perhaps its the custom rod length? Stock is 150mm (I think) so they're a tish longer for this setup.

MAP, you should offer these in your evo lineup I LOVE my stock motor, but should something happen to it...these look tempting for all the right reasons.

There's a big snag. But if you're not concern about 9k+, these seem like a great drop-in replace a carnage-induced motor

We're building a few of them for stock actually, but 6 bolt applications 7 Bolt is actually easier as Manley does make the 156mm rod for them still. I guess I'm not familiar with the differences between water pumps and such though, but it makes sense since the block is out of an early 200X Eclipse I believe...

Good luck shifting or having a head that will breathe at 10k.

If you want to rev to 10k, get an S2000.

That was another thing I thought about. Maybe a built auto to go along with a destroker? I'm not planning on building one anytime soon, just trying to get to know all of the options "just in case". I wanna see some numbers on these motors.

This stuff isn't new, Marco's been building 2.1's since 2001. And there's actually quite a few people running past 10k on various DSM motors, pretty much anyone in the 9's or better, which these days is a lot. And our heads flow plenty for 10k usage with mild work. You should see what it takes to get a stock 350 Chevy head to flow anywhere near what ours will.

In fact, we all know someone running a stroker past 10k with a 2G head. DSM heads are not a restriction.

I never said any of this is new, i just think its silly to want to rev so high in a street car just for the sake of it.

None of us are rau or shep, and i'm fairly certain they are running 2.0s anyway.

Rau and Shep both run 2.0's, Kiggly runs a stroker

Re: Destroker kit, want to know all!

Info taken off of DTuners, credit Delta448

Delta448 posted this in another 2.2 thread

The formula for displacement is 3.1415 * (bore/2)^2 * stroke * number of cylinders.

Using an 88mm (stock 2.0L) crankshaft:
85mm bore = 1997cc
85.5mm bore = 2021
86mm bore = 2045
86.5mm bore = 2068
87mm bore = 2092
87.5mm bore = 2116
88mm bore = 2141
Rod Ratios: stock piston and 150mm rod = 1.70
stroker piston and 156mm rod = 1.77
stroker piston, 2.4 block, 162mm rod = 1.84

For a 92mm Magnus crankshaft:
85mm bore = 2088cc
85.5mm bore = 2113
86mm bore = 2138
86.5mm bore = 2163
87mm bore = 2188
87.5mm bore = 2213
88mm bore = 2238
Rod Ratios: stock piston, 148mm rod = 1.61
stroker piston, 154mm rod = 1.67
stroker piston, 2.4 block, 160mm rod = 1.74

For a 94mm Eagle crankshaft:
85mm bore = 2134cc
85.5mm bore = 2159
86mm bore = 2184
86.5mm bore = 2209
87mm bore = 2235
87.5mm bore = 2261
88mm bore = 2287
Rod Ratios: stock piston, 147mm rod = 1.56
stroker piston, 153mm rod = 1.63
stroker piston, 2.4 block, 159mm rod = 1.69

For a 97mm Crower crankshaft:
85mm bore = 2202cc
85.5mm bore = 2228
86mm bore = 2254
86.5mm bore = 2280
87mm bore = 2306
87.5mm bore = 2333
88mm bore = 2360
Rod Ratios: stock piston, 145.5mm rod = 1.5
stroker piston, 151.5mm rod = 1.56
stroker piston, 2.4 block, 157.5mm rod = 1.62

For a 100mm (stock 2.4L) crankshaft:
85mm bore = 2270cc
85.5mm bore = 2296
86mm bore = 2323
86.5mm bore = 2350
87mm bore = 2378
87.5mm bore = 2405
88mm bore = 2433
Rod Ratios: stock pistons, 144mm rod = 1.44
stroker pistons, 150mm rod = 1.50
stroker pistons, 2.4 block, 156mm rod = 1.56

For a 102mm Crower crankshaft:
85mm bore = 2315cc
85.5mm bore = 2342
86mm bore = 2370
86.5mm bore = 2397
87mm bore = 2425
87.5mm bore = 2453
88mm bore = 2481
Rod Ratios: stock piston, 143mm rod = 1.40
stroker piston, 149mm rod = 1.46
stroker piston, 2.4 block, 155mm rod = 1.52

For a 106mm Crower crankshaft:
Crower states the 106mm crank must be used in a 2.4L block, stock 2.4L bore is 86.5mm.
85mm bore = n/a
85.5mm bore = n/a
86mm bore = n/a
86.5mm bore = 2491cc
87mm bore = 2520
87.5mm bore = 2549
88mm bore = 2579
Rod Ratios: stock piston, 2.4 block, 147mm rod = 1.39
stroker piston, 2.4 block, 153mm rod = 1.44

Wow, with that 106mm crank, we're almost to the 2.7L that Crankwalker promised us years ago.
