Re: Aquamist HFS-2, HFS-3
So ya, this is an evolution of the HFS-1, featuring technology from the HFS-6 and old HFS-5 kits. They will feature RJ45 (same as your computer network connection) plugs for super easy wiring of the junction box. Wiring these things typically eats a good 45+ mins when I do installs, maybe more. The -3 kit will be pretty much the same setup as the HFS-1 except it'll have built-in boost trigger on top of the IDC (injector duty cycle) trigger. The -2 kit will not include the gauge or failsafe features and be much cheaper, but I would not recommend this option to anyone, as the very fact that they have a well-implemented failsafe is part of what makes Aquamist kits shine above all else!
ALSO, this just in:

It does not have the full set of adjustments offered by the HFS-6.
The aim of this system is to update the HFS-1 to become a P&P progressive system at minimise cost to the end user. Utilising the PWM-valve setup to gain large dynamic flow range .

ZZOMG head 'splosion, so this is a PROGRESSIVE kit? Not a single-stage? It sounds like this is the case. I'm going to nail down what the exact differences are between the -3 and -6, so we can all make more educated buying decisions

At least you autocross guys have an excuse not to buy stuff--it could change your class. I have no willpower whatsoever.

Screw autoX classes, torque = fun!
Or, keep your auto-X class, and just promise to leave the alky off, then when you hit the street:
+50whp/+50wtq with the push of a button (this is from my IX turbo setup almost 2 years ago)

I gave up on that, hence why I was in SM this past year. Alcohol injection is legal AFAIK, nitrous is not. But it all depends on if you want to have fun, or be competitive. Or be like me and look for a co-drive in a competitive car and work on becoming a car slut.

Re: Aquamist HFS-2, HFS-3
Alcohol is highly corrosive so if you run it, or are thinking about running it, check out this stock FPR from an Evo:
This was after 4 years running a 50/50 meth/water mix. Definitely something to keep in mind and watch out for since the alcohol travels into the FPR, BOV, brake booster, and everything else with a vacuum line attached to the intake manifold.

Maybe that is because he was from MN. LOL

Re: Aquamist HFS-2, HFS-3
^yea, I'm skeptical about that particular FPR issue, we'll see what becomes of it. I've been running alky for nearly 3 years now (SMC kit installed 1/13/2007) and never noticed rust when I had the FPR disconnected a few times.

Re: Aquamist HFS-2, HFS-3
E85 has a habit of eating pump socks, inexpensive fuel lines, etc. There's a price to be paid with anything.

Re: Aquamist HFS-2, HFS-3
Thats kind of a high price tag....
That is almost the cost of a standalone.
One of my thoughts was to leave the original system in place but have a secondary fuel system hooked to a smaller tank. You would have to add 4 more injectors but you could fill the smaller tank with whatever you wanted.
The 4 injectors would be progressively controlled and be shut of under a PSI
But now that I just reread all of this, thats a lot of work...
However there is the possibility of just running 87 octane in the regular tank and having premium (or E85) in the smaller tank (how often are we on the turbo anyway for the DD out there)
however I bet I could do that under $600... Fuel cost would make up for that eventually
I over thought this completely....
I had a question then about the injectors, what are they made out of so that they wouldn't corrode?
I haven't ever seen that much corrosion...

Re: Aquamist HFS-2, HFS-3
Looks like the -3 will be a really nice setup!

It cannot (compared to the HFS-6):
- offset against the initial F-IDC - the F-IDC threshold % = starting point of meth flow %
- It doesn't have manifold pressure compensation
- alter the failsafe reset period = pegged at 3 seconds
- read "Direct Injection" pulses such as the 335i or Audi FSI pulses
- control a MAC valve directly as with the HFS-6
It can:
- put gain on the incoming F-IDC for purpose of having large fuel injectors running low DC. Previously, the HFS-5 has to be double pulsed.
- You can run the system based on boost or IDC only. In single or progressive mode.
- You can program it to be single point (HFS-1) or PWM-V mode (HFS-5).
The HFS-6 has futher electronic signal processing to match the FAV's opening and closing period. That is all I can think of so far.

IMHO this makes the -3 the kit to get, as you get progressive injection for the cost of a single-stage kit. Hopefully I can get my hands on a kit sooner or later and we'll see how it works
