Group buy on active toe eliminator kits?

****UPDATE*****
I am asking $145 for my kit. It comes with 2 1045 steel slugs that are pressed/hammered into your trailing arms and then welded, 2 heavy duty chromoly teflon-injected rod ends with jam nut, and 4 stainless steel spacers so that they sit properly in the mounting tabs with the stock bolts.

I am having 5 sets made. This price is only good for the introductory run. I may need to re-evaluate, and I might sell nationally for a higher price.

***************

Hey all, I'm working with a machine shop to have active toe eliminator kits made.

These will be for a 1g AWD DSM.

They will be similar to the Jay Racing kit, but at least a good bit cheaper:

Jay Racing Kit

Also a better design IMO. It won't require welding (though I'd still recommend it) and will come with a high quality, heavy duty heim style rod end and spacers to install into the stock location with the stock eccentric bolt.

Would anyone be interested in a set? I don't have pricing right now, as I'm still figuring it all out. It will be reasonable though. Just not sure how many people care to have something like this - just want to gauge interest right now. If there is no interest, I'll just make a couple sets for myself and buddies.

More info on active toe and an install guide for the Jay kit:

I'm in the market for a set right now, depends on the timing for me.

I am looking at picking up a kit as well. What is the difference/improvement over the jay racing kit? How will this secure in the hole if welding is not required?

Re: Group buy on active toe eliminator kits?

You'll use the stock bolt that was used to secure the stock link inside the trailing arm. But honestly, if you want it welded and don't have a welder, just bring the arms to me and I can weld it for you.

That's one of the major improvements. Because of that the insert is bigger and will be more secure inside the TA. It will be a press-fit, my intention is to have it sized so you can just pound it in with a 5lb sledge or the like.

I may be interested based on price, as I wasn't in the market before this thread.

I've got my old Taboo speed shop ATE kit that I've had for years, I'm installing it this spring. Seeing as my stock stuff is pretty sloppy after all these years, this should be a real improvement to any 1G. I know the serious drag guys and wheel turners have been doing it for years.

Re: Group buy on active toe eliminator kits?

Yeah, I think the toe-in induced by the stock links are going to really put a hindrance on a proper handling track/autox car, i'm planning on tracking my car a few times this summer.

I will say, getting the stock links out is a massive pain. I'm convinced the best option is just hook your ball joint hole to a strap and something solid, and use a come-along attached to the toe link to yank it out.

Having a preliminary set made, should be done today. I'll figure out what needs refinement and correct that before I do a run for everyone else.

If you can get your 2nd production run at least 12 hours before the Spring Cruise, I am defiantly down as I'll have my rear end out for re-bushing.

thanks!

Kudos for getting DSM stuff made.

I modified mine using a poly bushing and sandwiching the toe link with a washer and welded it solid. One of trhe best improvements to the way a 1g feels.

Re: Group buy on active toe eliminator kits?

I wonder, do you guys think I should order heim ends, or just sell the slug prethreaded and let you guys pick the heim end? I'm tempted to just leave it up to the installer to spend as much or as little on the heim end as you want.

It'll be threaded for a 7/8-14 RH rod end - I BELIEVE this is the same size as the Jay Racing rod end. You can get a 45,000lb chromoly static load heim for it if you want (as they include) but I really don't think one that beefy is necessary.

I could go either way... if there's not a substantial price difference I'd rather have the bearing pre-installed.

Re: Group buy on active toe eliminator kits?

well, the difference between a basic heim rod end and a nicer one is about ~$25 each per end, so about $50 total... fairly substantial. I'll look into this more.

Re: Group buy on active toe eliminator kits?

awesome JET, i'll keep this thread updated. Prototypes are a bit delayed but I'm told they'll be done tonight. Working with machinist on getting a cost for a larger order.

Oh, and after talking to the machinist I realized I can bring the cost down a lot by just replicating what Jay Racing does, just the short slug you weld in. My prototype is longer and has the flat section with bolt hole to secure in the stock location. I'm thinking about offering both alternatives, but the shorter slug will be quite a bit cheaper to make.

Re: Group buy on active toe eliminator kits?

I haven't decided if i'm going to do them like that, or shorter and weld-in only like the Jay's ones. These things are pretty beefy/heavy with that much steel - maybe excessive (4 lbs 6 oz each with rod end). I'll hopefully have firm pricing by the end of the week, again sorry about that.

I may also ask for deposits... is that reasonable?

Thoughts/feedback appreciated.

Re: Group buy on active toe eliminator kits?

They're in! I had to clean up/clearance the insides of the trailing arms thoroughly with a carbide porting bit, but nothing too crazy. I'm not sure these big long ones are worth it. I might just make shorter ones that you have to weld in. You definitely don't need to weld these though. It took some wacking with a 5lb sledge and piece of wood, and the bolt went through perfectly.

This is a way involved switch up. I guess a good time to replace your subframe bushings ect as well. Hmmm The J kit sold for 175 i would probably be interested in a price quote 4 SURE!
