Fancy Beer!
Over the last couple days I've been collecting these from various liquor stores in the cities. I even took a co-worker with me today on lunch break to get an extra once since the store was limiting them to 1 per person.
So let me to thinking, what kinds of beer do you guys (and gals) like?

Re: Fancy Beer!
For me, as a general rule of thumb; if can see my hand behind the glass, it's not dark enough.

Re: Fancy Beer!
I'm more of an IPA guy, but russian imperial stouts are probably my second favorite style. Wish I could get Surly down here.

I'll trade you two cases of grainbelt for a bottle of your darkness since they are so similar. lol

Haha I just bought that a week ago for the bottle. The beer is the 2nd worst I've ever had by Rogue, their chipotle beer is worse imho. But yea, major fail on the maple syrup + bacon flavored beer.
Edit: Holy shit, is that an unopened bottle of 4? Do want. My most favorite stout to date was a one-time batch of stone vanilla I got at the great american beer festival, and my friend who had that with me said Surly 4 was almost identical.

Re: Fancy Beer!
The surly 4 is empty. I got it in trade for a 09 darkenss last year. I do not like coffee but loved the beer. Empty surly bottles are woth some cash for the real lmt runs. I have been offred 300.00 for the orignal darkenss and 100.00 each for the 2&4 bottles
AJ, every were west of hwy100 got theres on fri. I got mine by you at the gwill got the only 2 they had.

You gotta be on top of it to get one. After Darkness day, you just gotta keep calling liquor stores until they say they have it. Most will know if they are getting it or not, but they generally don't know when until the same week they get it. Most stores have a waiting list/reserved list, try to get on them if you can. Otherwise, get there as soon as you know they have it.
I called Haskel's near work here every other day until they told me it would be in Friday. I called them again around noon, and they guy said they would have them there in about 30 minutes. I went there about 45 minutes later, and 5 had already been sold, another 2 were bought by me, and while I was there 4 others were sold. Stores generally only get between 20-60 of them.

Re: Fancy Beer!
What does this Darkness beer taste like?
Buffalo Sweat is good. I like Left Hand as well, havnt tried thier nitro bottle though. Rogue is always good. I've always been a fan of sweet/milk/chocolate stouts.

Re: Fancy Beer!
Ahh yes, I've tasted buffalo sweat and thought it was quite pleasant on the tongue.
I hear darkness tastes like buffalo sweat on crack.

Re: Fancy Beer!
Buffalo Sweat and Lefthand Nitro are fairly tame Oatmeal stouts. Darkness is a Russian Imperial Stout. It's sweet, brewed with Chocolate, Cherry, Coffee and Raisins. It's also like 11% so it's got a little bite to it. The closest thing I can equate it to would be Stone's Russian Imperial. There are other Russian Imperials like Old Rasputen that you can find year round. But Old Rasputen is more of a dry imperial, with a little bit more of a hoppy after taste.

Re: Fancy Beer!
I spent my friday night outside in line a couple weeks ago for some Darkness. It was cold, but worth it, i ran around for bottles of it last year, and it was nice to have to not have to do that this year. Its is my favorite Russian Imperial. Russian Imperials, Porters, and Bourbon Barrel Ale's are my three favorites.
My wife really likes Belgian Golden Ales, like Goose Island Matilda and similar. Here is most of my "fancy" beer in the house ( aside note... not all of the 2012 Darkness is mine. I'm storing a 4 bottles for my father-in-law's xmas presents).
I also have a homemade keg fridge with two 5 gallon kegs of homebrew in them, that I brew with MattD. One is a Nut brown, the other is a Bavarian Dunkel.
and an empty keg for good measure!
