E85/93oct compatible fuel filter - best micron to use?

Basic question is, my filter come to find out is almost 3yrs old and was never changed when previous owner switched to E85. And from research switching to E85 can clean out all the junk that built up in your fuel tank over the years.
I have been fighting a part throttle issue and I have a new isc and tps sensors on the way but want to change the filter as well.

My question:
Research shows SS element is the way to go but what is the best micron size and filter to go with seeing as this car will mostly be running 93oct. But i want the car to be fully set up to run E85. I plan tp buy from "map" and will be -6 I/O

Re: E85 compatible fuel filter

http://www.mitsustyle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29366

Found this thread just now when searching aeromotive filters. But like him looks like smallest SS element map is showing is 40.

Edit: still researching only found 1x10micron ss filter from jegs but not what im after.

In more researching and reading an article from "aeromotive" im starting to wonder if they only go down to 40 micron due to properties/make up of E85 and how fast contaminates build up. They said to maximize the life of your fuel pump you are supposed to change the filter every 10 running hours, and if you dont plan to they dont suggest running there pump. (Post I read was from 2013 so maybe things have changed) but due to filters clogging so fast and causing lean condition that might be why 40micron is as low as im finding.

Was trying to find the filter that is supposed to be on my car and found this. Write up says its for motorcycles. Or filtering oil from your turbo... feeling worried now.

Looks like fuel lab 818 from map is the route to go.

(I tried to edit an earlier post to include this one but because im linking a website via my phone it won't work)

PM me tomorrow, I have an inline filter with gas and e85 filters. Was going to use it on the Exige but never got around to it.

That's what is on there now. And it says reusable/washable element in the write up?

How ever google so far has nothing for cleaning a SS fuel filter element. Anyone ever clean one if so what did you use etc? And is it worth giving it a shot?

Re: E85 compatible fuel filter

To do it right you'll want to put it in a parts washer. If you're wanting to do it yourself at home, use high pressure blasts of brake cleaner in the opposite direction of the fuel flow. Once clean, hit it with some compressed air to make sure any residue is blown off and it's completely dry.

Re: E85 compatible fuel filter

I have this -6AN feed line and the fuellab e85 safe filter shown in this kit:

http://www.maperformance.com/map-fue...-evox-ffl.html

the filter is stupid pricey though, like 150 bucks but its huge.

It's kind of hard to tell by looking here but this is the filter on my firewall, hard to tell size without a reference but its big.

Re: E85 compatible fuel filter

Ya I was actually shocked when I popped my hood to verify the filter, it says it's for bikes but it looks big ad well. I did like how this one is a 35micron and not 40 like the fuellab.

However its just zip tied to a line on the firewall. I bought brake cleaner, per above to clean it as well as plan to build a mounting bracket for it. Im headed to vir tomorrow morning my brother is racing in the 24/hr event this weekend and his wife came with there 6 week old baby so looking forward to meeting my niece for the first time.

I am hitching a ride with my mother so I plan to tackle this next weekend weather permitting. But ill post it up in my build thread.

Re: E85 compatible fuel filter

Well got back from vir chump race early today and decided to go ahead with the cleaning of the filter.

And well ya I can not unscrew the top off this thing to save my life. And when I took the fuel lines off I had a paper towel there to catchany excess gas. And I was shocked how much black stuff came out the filter with out even doing anything but emptying the gas out of it. I blew it out with an air house and then put ot back on as I need to take the car to work tomorrow.

Re: E85 compatible fuel filter

Wow, sounds like it was pretty nasty. Did you spray some brake cleaner in there before blowing it out with compressed air?
