KBB is meant for newer stock cars, it's a very general pricing guide for general cars. Modded cars can be worth more or less than a stocker, and it's tough to know exactly what someone would pay for it. I find that on here, most people think their car is worth WAY more than it actually is, myself included. Once I realized what people were willing to actually pay for my car, I realized I'd rather park it and let it collect dust than sell it for $4000.

The best pricing guide for a modded car is to see what similar cars have actually sold for, not what they are listed at. Ebay completed auctions is a great resource for this.

This would be only for insurance proposes. The car is getting up there when it come to money spent so I would like to get it valued.

i dont know how it is with your insurance. but with mine they will not insure a car for more than twice its stock value.

so if the going value on the car according to insurance is $2000 they will not insure the car for more than $4000 regardless of how much you spent on mods.

i believe the reason for this is so that people cant go buy some pile of shit. throw a shit ton of mods to ramp up the price then wrecking the car. then the insurance company is stuck paying out gobs of money for a car with little to no actual value.

my insurance company also requires you to carry added coverages such as comprehension and collision when you start adding aftermarket modding insurance further increasing the price.

Thats almost the same as kbb and nothing for what the OP was asking for. I vote Goat Blowers route of appraisal. Would the insurance company be able to send an "agent" out to get it estimated?

^ this. NADA is only SLIGHTLY more accurate because they're associated with many dealers and we report statistics to them.

On a 1G, it wouldn't even be remotely accurate.

Just for reference, I had my GSX insured for $10k full coverage a few years ago. That was an arbitrary number based on what it would cost me to replace it not including any labor costs. Now I'm just putting collector car liability on it because with my driving record, full coverage is a waste of money. I haven't had an accident since the late 80's.

BTW, I had to take a lot of photos of all the mods, stereo, etc just in case anything ever did get stolen. They'll want proof.

I know with progressive I have "custom vehicle coverage" to where I added $1000 to the value of the vehicle without needing proof.

I have $5000 in aftermarket insurance through Progressive as well. I am thinking of switching to a collector car insurance policy and they said I could find my own appraiser. Thought maybe someone knew of one that didn't cost $200 bucks.

I did get in contact with a guy by the name of Ron Blake that said he can do it legally. I will post his info up if he is worth it.

KBB is for people looking to get a bit more for their car. NADA is the most accurate. My dad and uncle, along with MANY other dealers, use NADA as the basis for buying and selling all of their cars.

I know it has worked for 20+ years for us/our business. Obviously it is worth something if people keep coming back to us.

^^^^So you guys get lots of cars in that have more money invested into mods than the car is technically worth? That is what he is getting at, he wants to be covered if something were to happen and get more than $1,500 for a car he probably has $10,000 into. NADA and KBB won't help him one bit in that regard.
