96 Eclipse GSX

This is probably going to be a 'blog' more than a 'build/project' thread but there she is. Picked her up about 2 weeks ago. It's a 1996 Eclipse GSX with the 97+ front and rear bumpers. Been looking around for a good month for a good deal and this one popped up. Previous owner tells me it's got the Evo 1 engine...whatever, it drives good. Current mods right now it has right now is a very straight 3" exhaust (that has a small leak) and an intake. Idles good, drives good and it's a good beater.

It's one of the reasons why I got it, it's a good winter beater. I haven't had much time at all to really look into it. My brother goes to DCTC, he had it on the lift and tells me it's not leaking oil but we're concerned why it's losing coolant. Haven't had time to do a coolant pressure test(if that's what it's called), leak down or compression test yet. Hopefully this weekend.

As for future mods...for now, it's a winter car so no mods but "mods" that it needs will be a MBC, spark plugs/wires. It drives pretty good right now.

For now, it just needs small things to make it drive a bit better. The P.O. seemed like he didn't know much about it. So, I'm planning to purchase these items within a week or so:
-Shifter bushings (anyone have a good recommendation?)
-Radiator flush
-Trans flush
-Brakes and rotors
-Passenger side wheel bearing
-MBC
-Spark Plugs and Wires
-Valve Cover gasket (seems to be leaking)
-Possibly a new exhaust system because of the exhaust leak and just for winter driving for now.

I'll update once I get my hands in her. haha!

I don't know who you are, but nice car.

Before you buy all those parts check into your coolant loss issue, might be pushing coolant.....Hopefully it isn't.

Re: 96 Eclipse GSX

hopefully not pushing coolant. hopefully on of the hoses just has a small, very small, crack and it's slowly leaking haha.

But it will need a MBC. PO was showing me how awesome it was boosting 17 psi...smh.

Re: 96 Eclipse GSX

Turbo cars are the best winter beaters. They warm up quick, plus i always remote start all my cars, and they stay warm forever!
