clicking poping and binding noise

so its about time i posted this. after i completed my 4 bolt swap. driving around i get a clicking and poping noise. sometimes i get a rubbing noise.

this happens while driving. ive checked under the car and i see nothing rubbing or any contact of moving parts.

this only happens while moving, so i tried jacking up the car and leaving it in gear to try and better pinpoint the problem but there was no noise when i tried this.

so it only happens when the cars suspension and loaded ive got no clue what this would be

ive had halon kind of check this out as well and i just cant figure it out.

when i did the 4 bolt swap is was an entire suspension swap, as well as some agx's in the back

any help would be nice as im compleatly stumped

Re: clicking poping and binding noise

Is it possible thats the rack in pinion are bad? or thats your rear shocks are bad?

Re: clicking poping and binding noise

rack and pinion should be fine, this only started happening after doing the rear end, thats all i touched.

i guess it wouldnt hurt to throw the stockers back up there and see if that helps at all though, thanks for the idea

Re: clicking poping and binding noise

well i tried the shocks, to no avail. only other thing i can think of is that for whatever reason its the calipers making the noise.

Axle CV joints? Thats a common clicking noise from the rears on DSMs.

one of the front axles is a little loose, but the rears seem to be in good shape

When I was hanging out of your window, it sounded like the noise was for sure coming from up front, not the rear.

Re: clicking poping and binding noise

i just find it kind of odd this would happen after doing the 4 bolt swap in the rear. never touched the front, and it was fine before the swap.

you think a bad axle would make that kind of a noise?

What do all of your control arms look like? does the wheel wiggle L to R or up and down?

Re: clicking poping and binding noise

A bad CV joint would definitely make that kind of noise. When you put in the new rear axles did you check to make sure they moved freely without any weird noises or excess play? That would be the first place I would look.

Re: clicking poping and binding noise

wheels do not wiggle at all. the axles in the rear were installed already. they turned pretty freely, i installed the entire rear assembly. like the entire rear end all at once as thats how i bought it.

i tride grabing the axle and moving it around, just a very very small amount a movment on one side but nothing i would be worried about

Re: clicking poping and binding noise

The rear axles on these cars click all the time and they will usually last forever doing that and you usually won't be able to tell a good one from a bad one by looking at them or wiggling them. You just go buy new ones. If you run a welded center diff or welded VC, then those new ones will soon be clicking again.

Re: clicking poping and binding noise

My car is down for awhile. If you want to borrow either of my axles or intermediate shaft for a couple days and swap it in just to see if the issue goes away, feel free.

the way it sounds to me is the spider gears or the limited slip in the rear could be shot id pull the diff cover and have a look see.

Re: clicking poping and binding noise

^^ +1. If it's fine going straight, but clunks and pops going around a corner I would be concerned about the diff. That is, unless the previous owner put a clutch type LSD in it.
