92-94 Talon rear bumper

I'm looking for a bumper cover and hopefully the rear fender well covers from a 1GB Talon to convert my 91. I would prefer black so I can change it over right now, but I might consider other colors. Minor scuffs or paint imperfections are fine (anything that can be painted over), but no cracks or dents please. Let me know what you've got and how much you want for it.

Re: 92-94 Talon rear bumper

You don't need the fender well covers, but you need the taillights and the relay.

Re: 92-94 Talon rear bumper

I have the tail lights. Bought a tinted set from TKR.

I thought the 91 style fender well covers (the back section anyway) wouldn't align properly.

Don't know anything about a relay. Is it a specific relay or just a regular old 5 prong get-it-anywhere relay? I figured there would be some little details to be worked out...

Re: 92-94 Talon rear bumper

My rear fender well covers didn't perfectly allign, but it really did not matter at all. And as far as the relay, I never did change mine. I kept the same relay, swapped some tail light harnesses around, and it all worked out fine. I really wish I would have kept a photo diary type thing of exactly how I did it, but oh well. From the donor car you get your stuff from, try to also make sure you get the bulb connectors for the lights that go in the very corner of the tail lights. If you don't get this, you'll probably be like me, and just not run bulbs in the corners, which again isn't really a huge deal.

Re: 92-94 Talon rear bumper

Seeing as I pass through the area on a regular basis I plan to keep an eye out for a Talon at U-Pull for all the little odds and ends. I can get pretty creative with lighting if I need to I've had 4 different turn signals on the front and it's always looked stock. BTW if anybody wants parts U-Pull has a 93 GSX at the moment. Thinking of grabbing me a spare head...

Why is the relay swap necessary? I'm not even sure which relay you guys are referring to. Is there one dedicated to the rear end and if so does this style draw a vastly different amount of power or something? It seems unlikely.

Maybe I'll take photos of the process. I always start that and never finish. I tried to do it for my body work, but gave up after taking all the molding and such off.

Thanks again for the help Halon.

Re: 92-94 Talon rear bumper

The relay is so the taillights operate correctly. You'll find that the harness is the same, but the placement of the turn signals bulbs in relation to the brake like and taillight bulbs is different between the two cars. The relay makes it work right and your bulbs in the corners even work! It takes about 5 minutes to swap out, it's under the stereo. I always thought mine turned out well.

Re: 92-94 Talon rear bumper

Here's a pic that may help you, comparing the 1Ga (bottom) to the 1Gb (top) Talon rear tail lights.

You can see the bulb in the far corner I was talking about. The 1Ga plastic bulb socket thing does not go into the 1Gb one. You can see easily in this picture, that the holes are keyed differently. You can switch out that plastic socket easily, its just clipped to the cars wiring harness. Mine is not plugged in though, I will do it someday, but didn't find it neccessary at the moment.

Also you can see where the 92 has the one extra bulb.

You can see that the plastic plug is different, so I did some harness swapping to get it to work right. I didn't replace any relays. I guess I'm still unsure of where the relay is Steve. I remember talking to you on the phone, and getting what I though was the relay, but turns out I grabbed the MPI relay I think. Oh well. I got mine to work without changing the relay. There's more then one way to skin a cat I suppose. I'll try to get some other pictures though of what all I did. If I remember right though, all I did was swap those harnesses on the tail light, and had to hard wire in that extra bulb to the turn signal wiring.

Steve, I'm wondering, since you car originated as a 1Gb of the Eclipse flavor, and mine originated as a 1Ga of the Talon flavor, that is why I have a few differences I had to deal with that you didn't, or maybe why I didn't need the relay, and you did. Just a thought.

That sounds perfect. I'd love to pull the bumper and miscelaneous related wiring. What color is it and where is your parents house located?

Re: 92-94 Talon rear bumper

Aaron's car would be a perfect donor. I'm pretty sure that car is located in Blaine, and the bumper is red, and it's only minutes from my house. If you need help with what parts I know you will need, let me know and I could meet you there and give you a hand.

That would be great. I still have your number in PM's so when I figure something out with him I'll give you a call. it would be nice to not have to make a return trip, because I forgot one little part.

Re: 92-94 Talon rear bumper

I was just over there yesterday. It's not perfect, but I'd say it's fine, and good luck finding any other bumper out there locally. BTW, I also took those bulbs I needed out of Aaron's car, so my set is complete now! You'll need to find em else where, muahahahah!

Re: 92-94 Talon rear bumper

LOL, I'm pretty sure the set TKR sold me came with bulbs. Wires cut so no harnesses, but bulbs in them.

He said it has a bend and spider web cracking in the paint. I don't think sanding and painting will cover that up. Any thoughts on the condition? People have different opinions of quality and blemishes.

Re: 92-94 Talon rear bumper

Well I'm guessing you are going to paint it, so who cares what the condition of the finish is. And as far as a bend, I guess I didn't look close enough to notice a bend. Mine was in decent shape, but not perfect. Just saying that it is probably your only option if you are looking for something locally. Otherwise you'll have to scour classifieds from around the country, make sure the guy sends you all the correct stuff, and pay for shipping. I'd rather just get the local one personally. Just drive up there and check it out.

Re: 92-94 Talon rear bumper

That's probably what I'll do.

I see them at the yard occasionally. I'm not going to paint for a few months and unless it's a black bumper I'm not going to convert until I paint so I can afford to wait if I have to.

Re: 92-94 Talon rear bumper

Where you going to get it painted at? I had mine done at Maaco. It was their $600, second to best job they offer. In the end it cost 900, after taxes, after the prep work they did, and fixing some of my bumps/dings. Turned out freaking amazing for the price.

Re: 92-94 Talon rear bumper

I'm going to paint it. I painted it last summer. Didn't turn out great, but I learned some good lessons. I think it will come out better this time.
