What would you pay?

Long story short; I have a friend that knows of a private scrap yard with a 1990 GSX parked. It's been there for awhile. This friend is into Dodge Neons, Lancers, Daytons, Shelby CSXs and the like. He has driven full cars out of the place onto a trailer for $250. $250 for an entire car minus the title. He seen this GSX and told me to check it out. He said the owns don't like anything other than Chevys so they'd part with it. He said $500 max for the whole car; or so he thought.

I went up there with $500 cash and a trailer. I took a look at it and it was rough. The reason behind it being there is the fact some kid wanted to put a body kit on it but didn't want to pay the body shop. So they sold the car as scrap with no body panels left besides a hood and the now smashed up front fenders. Anyway, I threw a jump pack on the car and couldn't get it started. Hell it didn't even try to turn over. The clutch was also non-existent.

I went up to the front and the guy wanted to know what I was thinking price wise. I said $250-300. I mean, I really only need the drive train and engine. They instantly scoffed and said scrap would be higher. No problem I said. I can bring back what I don't use and I can even throw some metal into it for more weight for them. The "boss" asked whether it was a Eclipse or Talon. He said "Let me make a call".

As soon as he said that I knew what was to come. He asked me as he was asked over the phone. "What year?", "What size engine?" & "Is it the turbo?". After he got off of the phone he told me I wasn't going to like him. He said the cars are hard to find, especially 90's so the engine and transmission is worth $2,000. Yards charge $1,400 so he said he'd do half since he isn't a yard. I walked.

So the questions stands: What would you pay for an engine, trans., transfer case rear end and axles? Remember you have to return the shell to where you bought it after taking them out yourself. All conditions of parts are 100% unknown.

Thanks!

Re: What would you pay?

seems like a major waste of time. I've paid $80 consistently for 6 bolt shortblocks. I wouldnt buy a 1g trans for anything, including a 1g, but I'd assume 400 for all of it.

Luckily west wi is a haven for $100 6 bolt turbo and na longblocks.

Re: What would you pay?

Why do I never see any of these $100 long blocks for sale?

Re: What would you pay?

When I was buying and parting out 1gs I never payed over 500.00 for one that ran. Most of the 40+ I bought and parted were 100-300

Re: What would you pay?

When I get my truck back I'm bringing it and a trailer back there with the same amount. I'll see what I can make happen. I want my '92 running like a bitch.
