Would it even be worth my time to fully port a 1G manifold and tap it for an EGT, or would I be better off just buying a 2G manifold?

Get a 2G if you can afford one....on a tight budget, a ported 1G will help.

2g. A lot of 1g manifolds are cracked anyhow on the bottom (not visible until off). If you don't have any money for a 2g mani, then port it.
