Broken shift fork ?

Im pretty shure I broke a shift fork today. I was shifting into 3rd real hard and it didnt go in. no big deal try again no luck. so I go into 4th and keep driving. so the rest of the drive home I have the choice of 3rd and 4th gear. no luck getting it into any other gears.

I did a little checking when I got home. all the cables look good. I started it in netral and let the clutch out and it moves forward like its in first. 1st gear position the car stalls and 3rd is now like 1st.

so what do all you tranny exsperts out there think. THANKS FOR ANY HELP

Re: Broken shift fork ?

Sounds like something in the shift rails is busted. Usually when a fork breaks it's not possible to get it out of the gear that it was in when the finger of the fork broke. When the fork breaks, shifting into another gear will engage two gears and effectively lock the trans up. Your trans shouldn't have anything majorly broke though. If I had brought my air tools I would break it down for you. I just don't have anything to bust the 5th gear nut off with. Good luck.
