Removing fuel from gas Tank 2003 Malibu?
Ok so I have a 2003 Malibu that is going to the junk yard tomorrow and I have a full tank of gas and I was wondering if anybody knows how to remove the fuel from the tank?
Thanks Troy.

Go to the local hardware store and grab a siphon pump, (like 4-5 bucks) then a couple 5 gal gas cans and do work

Most fuel tanks have drain plugs.

That sounds like a PITA. Go siphon pump

Someone told me that there is a screen where the gas goes in on all the newer cars to stop people from Siphoning the gas out.
Does anybody know if this is true or false?

Re: Removing fuel from gas Tank 2003 Malibu?
Few options.
#1 Drain plug (many cars don't have them)
#2 Stick hose on fuel pressure regulator return, run hose to gas can. Let car idle or make hot wire fuel pump to run all the time and pump it out.
#3 Take drill. Drill hole in bottom of gas tank. Out comes fuel.

The problem with the Drain Plug is that fuel will get everywhere when you open it for one, and secondly having to close it up to switch cans when it gets full. Hence the PITA.
I like number 3, just make sure you use an electric drill that has lots of sparks flying out of it.

If its going to the junkyard just stick a pole down there and push through it.

If it's going to a junk yard drill a hole in the tank and drain it.

Hammer and a punch, no sparks.
Or
Park on a hill, run a long hose from tank to your mouth at the bottom of the hill suck and then put hose into new sweet ride.

That screen is usually in the filler neck, you could always take the filler neck off and do it that way.

Re: Removing fuel from gas Tank 2003 Malibu?
I doubt there would be any sparks if you were to drill, even if there were the gas pouring onto it would more than likely just drown it out. Vapor light way easier than liquid gas. When my grandpa used to own his body shop and he would patch a tank, he would weld it with the tank full because with it empty it would have a lot higher chance of igniting where a full tank it would drown it out if he burned through.
Besides, gas tanks are so thin the drill bit would probably only make a few turns until it pops through, it wouldn't have time to get hot let alone create sparks.
I would check for a drain plug just in case before messing with anything else though, shouldn't be too hard to spot.

Do what shane said. Option 2 gets the least amount of gasoline on you, your clothes, etc. and you don't need to get under the car. It's pretty easy.

Re: Removing fuel from gas Tank 2003 Malibu?
In my Cadillac I had to drain the tank once to change something on the fuel pump assembly. I unhooked the fuel feed line from the rail and hot-wired my pump. It was pretty quick and not messy at all.

The people that say you will get full of gas when you pop out the drain plug: WTF do you look like after changing your oil? LOL

Re: Removing fuel from gas Tank 2003 Malibu?
^^True. He probably just throws away the drain plug on his cars and uses a tube of orange RTV to plug the hole
